Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).
The Boat in Clash of Clans is the wooden ship with red and white sails that carries you between your Home Village and the Builder Base. It sits wrecked on the shore until your Town Hall is high enough; on a new account that means Town Hall 6. Repairing it is free and takes 5 seconds, and after that a single tap moves you from one village to the other.
How to fix the Boat and unlock the Builder Base
- Upgrade your Town Hall to level 6. Older accounts can rebuild it from Town Hall 4.
- Tap the broken Boat on your Home Village shore and start the rebuild. It costs nothing and finishes in 5 seconds.
- Sail across. The first trip is part of the Builder Base tutorial, which plays the sailing animation and walks you through repairing your first buildings around the Builder Hall.
Once the tutorial is done, travel is instant: tap the Boat in either village and you load straight into the other one. The Boat itself has no levels, no hitpoints and no upgrade path.
The Boat in each village
In the Home Village, the Boat sits on the shoreline. It is one of the few structures that visitors and attackers cannot see when they look at your village. Next to it you will find the Airship, which flies you to the Clan Capital once you are at Town Hall 6 and in a clan of level 2 or higher. The two are easy to mix up at first.
In the Builder Base, the Boat is docked at the pier and has glowed there since the September 2021 update. People watching a Builder Base attack can see the Boat, though tapping it during a replay does nothing.
The Boat changes its look with your scenery. Most sceneries come with their own Boat design, plus a matching wrecked version for players who have not rebuilt it yet.
The other boat: the Master Builder’s Boat
On the other side of the Builder Base dock there is a second, smaller boat. This one belongs to the Master Builder. He uses it to sail to the Home Village and gear up one Cannon, one Archer Tower and one Mortar, each of which needs a matching Builder Base defense at a set level. The Master Builder’s Boat shows up broken at first and is fixed when your Builder Hall reaches level 3.
Before Builder Base 2.0 (May 15, 2023), the Master Builder could also sail over and work as a sixth Home Village builder from the Master Builder’s Hut. That job now belongs to B.O.B, a robot builder you unlock through B.O.B Control at Builder Hall 9. Players who had already unlocked the old O.T.T.O got B.O.B right away.
Boat changes over time
- May 3, 2017: the wrecked Boat appeared on village shores. Tapping it played a trailer.
- May 22, 2017: the Builder Base launched and the Boat could be rebuilt.
- September 2021: the Boat started glowing while docked in the Builder Base.
- May 15, 2023: Builder Base 2.0. The Boat still works the same way, but the base it takes you to now has two-stage attacks, Builder Hall 10 and a new star system.
- June 16, 2025: Supercell fixed a bug where the builder menu offered the Master Builder’s Boat as an upgrade to players at Town Hall 4 and 5.
Boat FAQ
Why can’t I fix the Boat in Clash of Clans?
Your Town Hall is too low. New accounts need Town Hall 6. Upgrade it and the rebuild option appears.
How long does it take to rebuild the Boat?
5 seconds, and it costs nothing.
Can the Boat be upgraded?
No. It has a single state once repaired. Only its appearance changes with sceneries.
Where does the Boat go?
Only to the Builder Base and back. The Clan Capital is reached by the Airship instead.
