Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).
The Home Village is your main base in Clash of Clans: the village you start the game in, built around your Town Hall, where you train your army, store your loot and defend against raids. Almost everything you do in the game (multiplayer attacks, Clan Wars, the Single Player campaign) starts here. The Builder Base and the Clan Capital are separate areas you reach from the Home Village by Boat and by Airship.
What the Home Village is
A new account starts with a level 1 Town Hall, two builders and a ruined Clan Castle. From there the loop is simple: collect and raid resources, spend them on upgrades, and upgrade the Town Hall when you’re ready to unlock the next tier of buildings. The highest Town Hall today is level 18, released on November 17, 2025.
The Home Village runs on three resources. Gold mostly pays for defenses, traps and walls. Elixir pays for army buildings and Elixir-based research. Dark Elixir, which unlocks at TH7, pays for Dark troop and spell research, pets and most hero upgrades. Gems are the premium currency on top of those, and you can earn small amounts by clearing obstacles and finishing achievements.
The Town Hall controls how many of each building you can own and how far you can upgrade them. By TH18 a fully built village has 94 buildings (counting the Town Hall and all Builder’s Huts, after every merge is done) and 47 traps. In any attack on a Home Village, destroying the Town Hall earns the attacker one star on its own.
How the Home Village connects to the Builder Base and Clan Capital
Clash of Clans has three playable areas. The Home Village is the only one you need; the other two open up as you progress and feed back into it.
| Area | How you get there | Main resources | Who builds it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home Village | Where you start | Gold, Elixir, Dark Elixir | You, with up to 6 builders |
| Builder Base | Rebuild the Boat (TH6 for new accounts) | Builder Gold, Builder Elixir | You, with the Builder Base builders |
| Clan Capital | The Airship (TH6, in a clan of level 2 or higher) | Capital Gold, Raid Medals | Your whole clan, together |
Builder Base
The Builder Base is a second village with its own Builder Hall (max level 10), its own troops and its own heroes. Since the Builder Base 2.0 update in May 2023, attacks there are played in two stages and you earn Builder Gold by attacking and Builder Elixir by defending. It ties back to the Home Village in a few ways. Fully upgrading B.O.B Control there unlocks B.O.B’s Hut, a sixth builder for your Home Village. The Gem Mine produces gems you can spend anywhere. Since May 2026 the Builder Base also gets an extra builder of its own once all your Home Village builders are unlocked.
Clan Capital
The Clan Capital belongs to your clan as a whole: Capital Peak at the top and eight districts below it. Members spend Capital Gold to rebuild and upgrade it, then fight other clans’ capitals during Raid Weekends. Your Home Village supplies the Capital Gold through the Forge, which makes a free batch every 23 hours. From TH9 it can also turn spare Gold and Elixir into extra Capital Gold, using a free builder. Raid Medals earned in Raid Weekends are spent back home at the Trader.
Every Home Village building, by type
The tables below cover every building you can place in the current Home Village. “Unlocks at” is the Town Hall level where the first copy becomes available. Buildings without a page on this wiki yet are listed without a link.
Defensive buildings
Most defenses are paid for with Gold; the Monolith and Revenge Tower cost Dark Elixir. From TH16 several older defenses merge in pairs into stronger ones, so a TH18 base has fewer Cannons and Archer Towers than a TH15 base. See the defensive buildings hub for strategy notes on each.
| Defense | Unlocks at | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cannon | TH1 | Ground only. At TH16 and TH17, pairs merge into Ricochet Cannons until none are left. |
| Archer Tower | TH2 | Hits ground and air. Pairs merge into Multi-Archer Towers from TH16. |
| Walls | TH2 | 325 pieces from TH13; level 19 is the current top level. |
| Mortar | TH3 | Long-range light splash against ground troops. |
| Air Defense | TH4 | Air only, very high single-target damage. |
| Wizard Tower | TH5 | Splash on ground and air. Two merge into a Super Wizard Tower at TH18. |
| Air Sweeper | TH6 | Pushes air units back instead of damaging them. |
| Hidden Tesla | TH7 | Stays hidden until a troop gets close or the base hits 51% destruction. |
| Bomb Tower | TH8 | Ground splash, and it sets off a bomb when destroyed. |
| X-Bow | TH9 | Set to ground-only or ground-and-air mode. |
| Inferno Tower | TH10 | Set to Single-Target (damage ramps up) or Multi-Target. |
| Eagle Artillery | TH11 | Merges with the Town Hall at TH17 to form the Inferno Artillery. |
| Giga Tesla | TH12 | Town Hall weapon. Weapon levels for TH12-15 were removed in October 2025, so it arrives maxed. |
| Giga Inferno | TH13 | Town Hall weapon for TH13 to TH16. Separate pages: TH13, TH14, TH15. |
| Scattershot | TH13 | Lobs rocks that split into fragments; can’t hit troops standing too close. |
| Builder’s Hut (armed) | TH14 | Huts can be upgraded into small turrets, and their builder repairs nearby buildings during a raid. |
| Spell Tower | TH15 | Casts a spell instead of shooting: Rage at level 1, then Poison (level 2), Invisibility (level 3) and Earthquake (level 4, added February 2026). |
| Monolith | TH15 | Slow single-target shots that add damage based on the target’s max hitpoints. Built with Dark Elixir. |
| Multi-Archer Tower | TH16 | Merge of two max-level Archer Towers. |
| Ricochet Cannon | TH16 | Merge of two max-level Cannons. |
| Inferno Artillery | TH17 | TH17’s Town Hall weapon. TH18 requires it maxed, then Guardians take over. |
| Multi-Gear Tower | TH17 | Merge of the geared-up Cannon and Archer Tower (added February 2025). |
| Firespitter | TH17 | Two per base; long-range bursts that hit ground and air in one direction. |
| Revenge Tower | TH18 | Gains power and hitpoints as 5, 20 and 40 of your buildings fall. Built with Dark Elixir. |
| Super Wizard Tower | TH18 | Merge of two Wizard Towers; attacks chain to up to 15 enemies. |
| Guardians | TH18 | Smasher and Longshot at release, Logger since April 2026. One defends at a time, patrolling around the Town Hall. |
| Crafting Station | TH11 (since Aug 2026; see note) | Holds one of the current phase’s crafted defenses. Phase 4 (Hot Candle, Hero Hunter, Cake-A-Pult) runs until December 31, 2026. |
A note on the Crafting Station: it arrived for the newest Town Hall (TH17 in June 2025, then TH18 with the TH18 update), and its change log says it opened to TH11 when Phase 4 began on August 1, 2026. Some older tables still list it at TH18, so check your own shop if you’re between TH11 and TH17.
Traps
Traps stay hidden from attackers until they trigger. Placing them doesn’t take a builder, and re-arming is free and happens automatically when you next log in. The traps hub covers placement.
| Trap | Unlocks at | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bomb | TH3 | Small ground splash, the first trap you unlock. |
| Spring Trap | TH4 | Reworked in October 2025: launches the biggest troop it can lift and shoves back anything larger. |
| Air Bomb | TH5 | Rises and chases the nearest air troop, then explodes with splash damage. |
| Giant Bomb | TH6 | A much stronger Bomb with a 3 to 4 tile blast. |
| Seeking Air Mine | TH7 | Heavy single-target damage to air units of 5+ housing space. |
| Skeleton Trap | TH8 | Releases skeletons, set to ground or air. |
| Tornado Trap | TH11 | Pulls troops in and spins them around; smaller troops are affected more. |
| Giga Bomb | TH17 | The Town Hall’s old death bomb, now a separate, visible trap that knocks troops back. |
Resource buildings
Collectors produce resources over time; storages hold them and lose a share when raided. The Town Hall and Clan Castle also store loot. See the resources hub for how each resource is spent.
| Building | Unlocks at | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Town Hall | TH1 | Holds some Gold and Elixir (and Dark Elixir from TH7), which attackers only get by destroying it. |
| Gold Mine | TH1 | Up to 7 from TH9. |
| Elixir Collector | TH1 | Up to 7 from TH9. |
| Gold Storage | TH1 | Up to 4 from TH9. |
| Elixir Storage | TH1 | Up to 4 from TH9. |
| Clan Castle | TH3 | Starts as a ruin; rebuild it to join a clan. Holds reinforcements and the Treasury. |
| Dark Elixir Drill | TH7 | Up to 3 from TH9. |
| Dark Elixir Storage | TH7 | Only one per village. |
Army buildings
These build, store, upgrade and equip your attacking force. Training is free and instant, so what you care about is what each one unlocks. Full details are on the army buildings hub.
| Building | Unlocks at | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Army Camp | TH1 | Holds trained troops; up to 4 from TH7. |
| Barracks | TH1 | Trains Elixir troops. |
| Laboratory | TH3 | Researches troop, spell and siege machine levels. |

Other buildings and structures
This group used to be called “Other” on this wiki: buildings that don’t attack, defend or produce resources, but still run big parts of the game. The Town Hall and Clan Castle are the obvious examples and sit in the resource table above because they also store loot. Everything else is below.
| Structure | Available from | What it’s for |
|---|---|---|
| Builder’s Hut | TH1 | Two come free; the third, fourth and fifth cost 500, 1,000 and 2,000 gems. |
| Boat | TH6 (new accounts) | Travel to the Builder Base. Rebuilding it is free. |
| Airship | TH6, clan level 2+ | Travel to the Clan Capital. |
| Forge | TH6, clan level 2+ | Makes Capital Gold for the Clan Capital. |
| Trader | TH6 | Weekly Magic Item offers for Raid Medals, and for gems from TH8. |
| Strongman’s Caravan | TH6 | Where Clan Games tasks and rewards live. |
| Goblin Workers’ stand | TH7 (events) | Rent a Goblin Builder or Goblin Researcher for gems during “Work for Hire” events. |
| Helper Hut | TH9 | Houses helpers: Lab Assistant (TH9), Builder’s Apprentice and Prospector (TH10), Alchemist (TH11). |
| B.O.B’s Hut | TH10 | Sixth builder, unlocked by maxing B.O.B Control in the Builder Base. Replaced the Master Builder’s Hut in May 2023. |
| Super Sauna | TH11 | Boosts a normal troop into its Super version for 3 days. |
| Loot Cart | Any | Refunds 10% of the loot you lost on defense (cut from 20% in October 2025). |
| Decorations | Varies | Cosmetic only; some can be stashed and placed again later. |
| Obstacles | Any | Trees, rocks and bushes; clearing one pays 0 to 6 gems, about 2 on average. |
The Fancy Shop added in the TH18 update isn’t a building. It’s a shop tab where you spend Sparky Stones, earned from Supercharges and Crafted Defense upgrades, on cosmetics like the Meteorite Builder skin.
What you need before the next Town Hall
You can’t upgrade the Town Hall the moment you have the Gold. The game first checks your village:
- Every building available at your current level has to be placed. Builder’s Huts, the Clan Castle, the Boat and B.O.B’s Hut are the exceptions.
- From TH8, the Hero Hall must be at the highest level your Town Hall allows, and every Hero Banner you have must be placed.
- From TH17, every available merge has to be finished: Ricochet Cannons, Multi-Archer Towers, the Multi-Gear Tower, the Inferno Artillery and, at TH18, Super Wizard Towers.
- Going from TH17 to TH18 also requires a max-level Inferno Artillery.
Each upgrade from TH4 up also gives a few days of boosts when you next log in. Your troops and spells fight at the new Town Hall’s max level and your collectors work at double speed. From TH8 your heroes and pets are boosted as well. The boost lasts 3 days for TH4-6, 4 days for TH7-9 and 5 days for TH10 and above, which makes the first week after an upgrade the best time to push attacks.
