The Roaster is a Builder Base flamethrower defense, unlocked at Builder Hall 6, that sprays bursts of 15 fireballs with splash damage at both ground and air troops within 7 tiles. It is built to wipe out swarms: Night Witch bats, Drop Ship skeletons and packs of Raged Barbarians. You get one Roaster, and it maxes at level 10 with Builder Hall 10.
How the Roaster attacks
Each burst is a rapid stream of 15 small shots, each with a 1.2-tile splash, followed by a short pause before the next burst. One shot does little, but a full burst landing on a crowd adds up quickly. Its reach of 7 tiles is medium for the Builder Base, longer than the Crusher and shorter than the Firecrackers.
- Range: 7 tiles.
- Targets: ground and air.
- Splash: 1.2 tiles per shot.
- Size: 3×3. One per base.
Because it hits both troop types, it is useful against an air attack and a ground attack alike, so you can place it on whichever stage you expect the harder push on.

DPS is the in-game figure and assumes full bursts. Against a lone tank, most of the splash is wasted; against a crowd, each shot can hit several troops at once.
Levels 1 to 6 are all available at Builder Hall 6, so a fresh Builder Hall 6 can push the Roaster quite far before upgrading again. The cost climbs slowly through those six levels and then jumps at level 7.
Where to place the Roaster
- Near the Builder Hall, so swarms of low-HP troops cannot chew through it. Keep in mind the Roaster cannot cover the far side, so Sneaky Archers or Beta Minions can still work on the Hall from the opposite side.
- Where you expect a Night Witch push. The Roaster kills her bats and hurts her in the same burst.
- On the path ground swarms will take. It thins out Raged Barbarians from a distance and keeps Drop Ship skeletons busy until other defenses finish them.
- Next to a Crusher. Roaster chip damage on a pack of Boxer Giants can leave them low enough for one Crusher slam to finish them.

How to beat the Roaster
- Tank it. Put a high-HP unit like the Battle Machine in front, with support troops behind, not on top of it. If they overlap, the splash hits both.
- Spread out. Scattered troops stop one burst from hitting the whole group.
- Snipe it from range if it sits on the edge of the base, for example with a Cannon Cart in its long-range Mortar Mode.
- Avoid swarm armies near it. Bats, skeletons and Raged Barbarian packs are exactly what it is built to clear.
Roaster changes and the Home Village Roaster
The Roaster was added on June 27, 2017. Builder Base 2.0 (May 15, 2023) added Builder Hall 10, which carries the Roaster to level 10. Builder Hall 6 is also where the second stage opens, so the Roaster is one of the first defenses you decide where to place across two stages.
A different Roaster appeared in the Home Village in 2026. It was a crafted defense on the Crafting Station during Crafting Phase 3, from April 1 to July 31, 2026, with 30 levels. Unlike the Builder Base version, each of its bursts only hits ground or air, depending on what it first targeted. On May 26, 2026 its burst interval was cut from 1.8 to 1.5 seconds and its splash radius was raised from 1.2 to 1.5 tiles. Phase 3 has ended, so the crafted Roaster is not available in the current phase.
