Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).
Builder Base walls are single 1×1 segments that block ground troops, and you can own up to 180 of them from Builder Hall 9. They max at level 10 (3,350 hitpoints each) with Builder Hall 10. The old five-piece wall runs are gone: Builder Base 2.0 split them into individual segments in May 2023, and each stage can hold at most 100 walls.
How Builder Base walls work
A wall segment does one job: it stops ground troops and forces them to break through or walk around. Air units (Beta Minions, Baby Dragons, Drop Ships, the Hog Glider and the Battle Copter) pass straight over. Walls don’t count toward the attacker’s destruction percentage, so they never cost you a star by themselves.
Ground troops would rather use an opening than smash a wall, which is the most useful thing to know when you build a layout. Leave a one-tile gap and melee troops will often walk a long way to reach it. That makes gaps the natural place for a Spring Trap, a Push Trap or a Crusher.
How many walls you get at each Builder Hall
| Builder Hall | Walls available | Max wall level |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10 | 1 |
| 2 | 20 | 1 |
| 3 | 50 | 3 |
| 4 | 75 | 4 |
| 5 | 100 | 5 |
| 6 | 120 | 6 |
| 7 | 140 | 7 |
| 8 | 160 | 8 |
| 9 | 180 | 9 |
| 10 | 180 | 10 |
From Builder Hall 6 your base has two stages, and each one takes up to 100 walls. With 180 walls at Builder Hall 9 and 10, you have to split them, for example 100 around your Builder Hall on Stage 1 and 80 around O.T.T.O’s Outpost on Stage 2. When Stage 2 first opens it comes with 10 walls already placed.
Wall levels, costs and Wall Rings
Costs are per segment. Levels 1 to 6 are paid in Builder Gold only. From level 7 you can pay with either Builder Gold or Builder Elixir, which lets you dump spare Elixir into walls once your Star Laboratory is busy. A Wall Ring upgrades one segment by one level.
| Level | Builder Hall needed | Hitpoints | Builder Gold | Or Builder Elixir | Wall Rings |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | 900 | Free | No | No |
| 2 | 3 | 1,100 | 2,000 | No | 1 |
| 3 | 3 | 1,300 | 10,000 | No | 1 |
| 4 | 4 | 1,600 | 50,000 | No | 1 |
| 5 | 5 | 1,900 | 150,000 | No | 1 |
| 6 | 6 | 2,200 | 240,000 | No | 1 |
| 7 | 7 | 2,500 | 400,000 | 400,000 | 1 |
| 8 | 8 | 2,750 | 600,000 | 600,000 | 2 |
| 9 | 9 | 3,050 | 800,000 | 800,000 | 2 |
| 10 | 10 | 3,350 | 1,000,000 | 1,000,000 | 2 |
Taking one segment from level 1 to 10 costs 3,252,000 in resources if you pay in Builder Gold all the way. For a full set of 180, that is more than 585 million, so walls will outlast almost every other upgrade at Builder Hall 10. Paying levels 7 to 10 in Builder Elixir moves 2,800,000 of each segment’s cost onto your other resource.
Wall Rings are a magic item shared with the Home Village (see Magic Items). Supercell’s August 30, 2026 update notes say Wall Rings no longer require a free Builder.
Building a wall layout
- Wrap your strongest splash and single-target defenses, not your storages. Resource buildings can’t be looted in Builder Base battles, so they work better outside as time-wasters.
- Use single segments to make small compartments. Since 2.0 you can place a wall on any tile, so a tank has to break two or three layers to reach a core defense.
- Leave 3×3 buildings a tile away from your walls. A Bomber’s blast also hits walls touching its target, so a building pressed against the wall line helps the attacker open it.
- Upgrade the segments around your main defenses first. Outer walls that only shape troop pathing can stay a few levels lower.
Breaking walls on attack
The Bomber is the Builder Base wall breaker. Its attacks deal 15 times their normal damage to walls, and from level 13 a single normal hit breaks a wall of any level. Its Bouncing Bomb ability throws a bomb that bounces twice and deals very high damage to walls, so one activation can open several rows. In 2.0 Supercell also changed its targeting so it skips wall pieces that don’t have two adjacent wall pieces, which stops it wasting bombs on stray segments.
The Drop Ship helps too: its Skeleton Bomb ability drops a bomb with extra wall damage and leaves Skeletons behind to keep attacking. If you would rather ignore walls, fly. A Beta Minion or Baby Dragon army never touches them.
What changed with Builder Base 2.0
Before May 15, 2023, Builder Base walls came in fixed pieces five segments long. You could rotate a piece but never split it, and upgrading one piece upgraded all five segments at once, so an unlock of “25 walls” really meant five pieces. Builder Base 2.0 made every wall an individual segment, like Home Village walls, and capped each stage at 100.
Prices and stats were rebalanced around the change. Before the update the top level was 9, the step to level 9 cost 4,000,000 Builder Gold per five-segment piece, or 8 Wall Rings. Now a single segment costs 800,000 for level 9 and never more than 2 Wall Rings, and level 10 was added with Builder Hall 10. Hitpoint values changed too: the old level 9 piece listed 5,014, a level 9 segment now has 3,050.
