Blacksmith

By October 1st, 2026No Comments

Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

The Blacksmith is the Home Village building where you equip and upgrade Hero Equipment. You can build it at Town Hall 8, and it has 10 levels, the last one at Town Hall 17. Each level raises the cap on equipment levels, holds more Ore and unlocks one or two new Common pieces.

What the Blacksmith does

The building has three jobs. It is where you choose which two pieces each hero carries into battle, where you spend Shiny, Glowy and Starry Ore on equipment upgrades, and where your Ore is stored. Equipment upgrades are instant and never tie up a Builder; only upgrading the Blacksmith building itself does that.

A few details worth knowing:

  • The Blacksmith’s level, not your Town Hall, sets how high equipment can go. Reaching a new Town Hall raises nothing until the Blacksmith is upgraded too.
  • Its storage caps how much Ore you can hold. When one type is full, the building shows a “Full!” bubble, which is your cue to spend some before the next Star Bonus or war payout.
  • Since February 2026 the equipment screen also lists pieces you don’t own yet, so you can see what’s obtainable.
  • The Hero Hall has a shortcut into the Blacksmith’s equipment screen.
  • It is a 3×3 building with no attack. On defense it’s just another building to destroy.

Blacksmith levels, unlocks and Ore storage

Upgrades cost Elixir (Gold until February 2024). Costs and times are base values before Gold Pass discounts.

Level Town Hall Unlocks Common cap Epic cap Shiny / Glowy / Starry storage Cost (Elixir) Time Hitpoints
1 8 Earthquake Boots 9 12 10,000 / 1,000 / 200 600,000 12h 700
2 9 Giant Arrow 9 12 15,000 / 1,500 / 300 1,200,000 1d 800
3 10 Vampstache, Metal Pants 12 15 20,000 / 2,000 / 400 2,300,000 2d 900
4 11 Rage Gem 12 15 25,000 / 2,500 / 500 3,000,000 3d 1,000
5 12 Healer Puppet, Noble Iron 15 18 30,000 / 3,000 / 600 5,000,000 4d 1,100
6 13 Healing Tome 15 18 35,000 / 3,500 / 700 6,200,000 4d 12h 1,200
7 14 Hog Rider Puppet 18 21 40,000 / 4,000 / 800 9,200,000 5d 1,300
8 15 Haste Vial 18 24 45,000 / 4,500 / 900 10,000,000 6d 1,400
9 16 Stun Blaster 18 27 50,000 / 5,000 / 1,000 11,000,000 7d 1,500
10 17 Electro Fangs 18 27 50,000 / 5,000 / 1,000 18,000,000 10d 1,600

Level 10 doesn’t raise any cap. Its only unlock is Electro Fangs for the Dragon Duke, so skip it until you have the Duke or want his full kit.

Every hero also brings two Common pieces of its own: the Barbarian King gets the Barbarian Puppet and Rage Vial, the Archer Queen the Archer Puppet and Invisibility Vial, the Minion Prince the Henchmen Puppet and Dark Orb, the Grand Warden the Eternal Tome and Life Gem, the Royal Champion the Royal Gem and Seeking Shield, and the Dragon Duke the Fire Heart and Flame Blower. Epic pieces come from events and the Hero Journey, not from Blacksmith levels.

What equipment upgrades cost

Shiny Ore pays for every level. Glowy Ore is added at every third level (3, 6, 9 and so on), and Epic pieces also need Starry Ore at every third level from 9 up. Those are the same levels where the equipment’s main ability numbers step up; the levels in between mostly add hitpoints and damage.

Upgrade path Shiny Ore Glowy Ore Starry Ore
Common, level 1 to 18 27,260 1,920 0
Epic, level 1 to 27 56,060 3,720 480
Single most expensive step (Epic 26 to 27) 3,600 600 150

If you’re short, the Blacksmith lets you make up the difference with Gems at 1 per Shiny, 5 per Glowy and 35 per Starry Ore. That gets expensive fast, so it’s usually better to wait. Supercell said in June 2026 that it is reviewing Ore prices, so expect these figures to move.

How to use the Blacksmith well

  1. Upgrade the Blacksmith early at each new Town Hall. Higher caps let you spend Ore you’ve saved, and the bigger storage stops Star Bonus and war Ore from going to waste.
  2. Level a pair, not a collection. Pick the two pieces you actually use on your main attacking hero and push them to the next Glowy level before spreading Ore around.
  3. Stop on Glowy levels. Because ability stats jump at levels 3, 6, 9 and so on, a piece one level short of a Glowy step gets most of its passive stats but misses the bigger ability jump.
  4. Save Starry Ore for the Epic you’ll keep. Starry is the hardest Ore to earn, and only Epics use it.
  5. Use the Prospector. From Town Hall 10, this Gold Pass helper converts one Ore type into another once a day (up to 2,000 Shiny, 120 Glowy or 2 Starry), which helps when one type is full and another is short.

Our Hero Equipment guide lists every piece and the best pairs for each hero.
