Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

The Giga Bomb is a visible trap unlocked at Town Hall 17. It is the old Town Hall death bomb moved out into its own 2×2 tile: when enough troops walk near it, it blows up for heavy damage against ground and air units and throws them backward. You get one, and the max level is 4 at Town Hall 18, where it deals 1,400 damage.

Where the Giga Bomb came from

From Town Hall 12 to 16, destroying the Town Hall set off a death explosion from its weapon. At Town Hall 17, the Town Hall merges with the Eagle Artillery to become the Inferno Artillery, and that weapon has no death bomb. The explosion was split off into this trap instead, so you can now put it anywhere in your base.

The move changed what the blast does. The Town Hall 16 Giga Inferno’s bomb poisoned troops, slowing their movement and attacks. The Giga Bomb drops the poison and slow and adds a strong knockback that moves nearly every unit in the game, including heroes, Dragons, Electro Dragons, Golems and Root Riders. Siege Machines are the exception.

How the Giga Bomb triggers

Most traps are hidden until they fire. The Giga Bomb is always visible to the attacker, so it works by threat as much as surprise. It also ignores small groups of troops:

  • It arms when attacking troops worth at least 18 housing space are inside its 3.5-tile trigger radius at the same time.
  • Units that cannot set off traps, such as Skeletons and Bats, do not count toward the 18.
  • Damaging spells like Lightning and Earthquake cannot set it off.
  • Freeze and Overgrowth Spells do not stop it from exploding once it has been triggered.

When it goes off, everything within 4.5 tiles takes the full damage, ground and air alike. Ground troops near the edge of the blast get pushed farther than those close in. A troop standing right on top of the bomb gets thrown straight up instead of sideways. The explosion also makes troops pick new targets afterward, which can send a Queen or a group of Hog Riders off in a direction the attacker did not plan.

Giga Bomb levels

Costs are in Gold.

Level Damage Cost (Gold) Upgrade time Town Hall
1 1,100 4,500,000 None 17
2 1,200 8,500,000 4d 17
3 1,300 12,500,000 5d 17
4 1,400 20,000,000 13d 18

Fixed at every level: 18 housing space to trigger, 3.5-tile trigger radius, 4.5-tile damage radius, hits ground and air. Only one Giga Bomb can be built, the same limit as the Tornado Trap.

Where to place the Giga Bomb

  • Keep it inside the base. On the outer ring it tends to be set off by a lone Dragon or a single tank, and the blast hits one unit instead of the army.
  • Put it on the path the main army will walk once it breaks in, usually between core compartments. That is where 18 housing space of troops is most likely to bunch up.
  • Use the knockback to throw ground troops into a neighboring compartment. Troops stuck behind a wall lose time, unless they jump walls (Hog Riders, Headhunters, the Royal Champion) or break them fast like Root Riders.
  • Pair it with the Tornado Trap, which drags troops into the blast. Attackers can see the Giga Bomb, though, so a Tornado Trap sitting next to it is easier to guess.
  • Remember that the attacker plans around it. A visible bomb pushes them to path around a section of the base, so it can shape an attack even when it never fires.

How to deal with the Giga Bomb

  • Stay under 18 housing space near it. Snipe the buildings around it with a few Barbarians, Archers or Minions and it never arms.
  • Waste it on purpose. Send one unit worth 18 or more housing space, like a Yeti, or a small group adding up to 18, through its radius before the main army arrives. Watch for other traps and defenses that cover the same spot.
  • Time the Grand Warden‘s Eternal Tome. If your army is about to set it off, popping the tome just before the blast keeps it from wiping out the troops inside the aura. Mistime it and they take the full hit.
  • Go underground. Miners and Super Miners do not trigger it while burrowed, and the same goes for Diggy and the Battle Drill. If they pop up too close, they will still get blasted.

Giga Bomb changes

  • November 25, 2024: added with the Town Hall 17 update, with three levels.
  • November 17, 2025 (Town Hall 18 update): costs cut at all three levels (level 1 from 5,000,000 to 4,500,000, level 2 from 10,000,000 to 8,500,000, level 3 from 15,000,000 to 12,500,000 Gold), plus shorter upgrade times at levels 2 and 3.
  • February 23, 2026: level 4 added for Town Hall 18.

Giga Bomb FAQ

Why didn’t the Giga Bomb go off?

It needs at least 18 housing space of trap-triggering troops inside its 3.5-tile radius at once. A few small troops, Skeletons, Bats and spells will not set it off.

Does the Giga Bomb hit air troops?

Yes. The explosion damages and knocks back ground and air units together, which regular Bombs and Giant Bombs cannot do.

Is the Giga Bomb still in the game at Town Hall 18?

Yes. The Inferno Artillery is gone at Town Hall 18, but the Giga Bomb stays and gains level 4.
