Best TH17 Attack Strategies (2026)

By October 1st, 2026No Comments

Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

The best Town Hall 17 attack strategies in 2026 are Dragon Duke Charge Super Bowlers, Warden Walk Throwers, Dragon Duke Charge Dragon Riders and Fireball Super Yetis. For each one you get the full army (troops, spells, siege, Clan Castle, heroes, equipment and pets), when to bring it, a step-by-step plan and the mistakes that cost stars.

All four armies fill a TH17 camp exactly: 340 housing space, 11 spell slots, and a Clan Castle with 55 troop spaces, 3 spell slots and 2 siege machines.

What is different about attacking at Town Hall 17

Your four Army Camps go up to 85 each at Town Hall 17, so you have 20 more housing space than at TH16, and the level 13 Clan Castle takes 55 troops. Spell space stays at 11. The Sneezy pet arrives at this level: she flies near her hero and spawns Boogers that attack buildings, and if her hero goes down she goes after defenses herself.

The defense changes more than the army. The Town Hall merges with the Eagle Artillery into the Inferno Artillery, which fires homing fireballs from the first second of the battle and leaves pools of fire where they land. The old Town Hall death bomb is gone; in its place sits the Giga Bomb, a visible trap that only fires when 18 housing space of troops stand in its range and knocks back even heroes. Add two Firespitters and the Multi-Gear Tower, and most TH17 plans try to take the Town Hall early or keep the main army away from it until a hero has dealt with it.

The four armies at a glance

Army Best use Main damage Spells you bring
Dragon Duke Charge Super Bowlers War and Ranked Super Bowlers 5 Invisibility, 2 Rage, Totem, Freeze
Warden Walk Throwers CWL, steady triples 12 Throwers 6 Totem, Rage, Freeze, Skeleton, Poison
Dragon Duke Charge Dragon Riders Air-friendly bases Dragon Riders and Inferno Dragons 6 Invisibility, 3 Totem, Freeze, Skeleton
Fireball Super Yetis Stacked cores, war and Legends Super Yetis 4 Invisibility, 2 Earthquake, 2 Freeze, Rage, Skeleton

Ranked Battles give you a limited number of attacks each week, so bring your most reliable army there and keep experiments for regular Battles, which cost no trophies.

1. Dragon Duke Charge Super Bowlers

The Dragon Duke charges one side under Invisibility Spells and builds the funnel. With no friendly air units within 6 tiles he enters Royal Rampage, which doubles his damage and adds 50% attack speed. Super Bowlers then take the core and the back end.

Army composition

Electro Fangs chains the Duke’s hits to up to four nearby targets. If Metal Pants is low level, Meteor Staff or Dark Crown can take its place on the Minion Prince.

When to use it

War and Ranked bases with a side the Duke can clear without running into the Town Hall or the Clan Castle early. It is the easiest of the four to learn.

How to run it

  1. Start the Duke on one side and send the Baby Dragon to steer the funnel he builds.
  2. Time Invisibility Spells to cover the gaps in the Spirit Fox’s invisibility so he keeps clearing defenses without taking real damage.
  3. Send the Ice Golem, Super Bowlers, Healers, Grand Warden, Minion Prince and Sky Wagon in together. The Archer Queen goes to the opposite side to build the second funnel.
  4. Break the first compartment with a Super Wall Breaker so the Bowlers enter cleanly.
  5. When the Bowlers reach the core, cast the first Rage and use the Warden’s ability together. Use the Minion Prince’s ability once he locks onto core defenses, and drop the second Rage deeper in.
  6. Place the cleanup troops around the outside. Once the core is down, use Revive on the Duke so he clears the back end. Since August 31, 2026 you pick which hero comes back by tapping their icon.
  7. Keep the Freeze for whatever big defense is left, often the Monolith.

Common mistakes

  • Trusting the Duke to tank traps. His trap damage reduction was cut twice in 2026 and is now 20%, so scout for Seeking Air Mines on his path.
  • Dropping the Baby Dragon or Balloons too close to him, which turns off Royal Rampage.
  • Using both Rage Spells at once. The second one is for the push past the core.

2. Warden Walk Throwers

The Grand Warden walks in with Furnaces to build the funnel and remove defenses, then twelve Throwers push through behind an Ice Golem. Throwers attack ground and air from 6 tiles away, so Healers can keep them alive from a safe distance. Six Totem Spells soak up fire throughout the push.

Army composition

  • Troops (340): 12 Throwers, 5 Healers, 2 Furnaces, 1 Ice Golem, 1 Super Wall Breaker, 2 Balloons, 1 Wizard, 1 Minion, 3 Archers
  • Spells (11): 6 Totem, 1 Rage, 1 Freeze, 1 Skeleton, 1 Poison
  • Clan Castle: 1 Super Yeti, 1 Super Valkyrie; 3 Totem Spells; 2 Log Launchers
  • Barbarian King: Earthquake Boots, Spiky Ball; Frosty (Snake Bracelet can replace the boots)
  • Archer Queen: Magic Mirror, Action Figure; Unicorn
  • Grand Warden: Life Gem, Rage Gem; Sneezy
  • Royal Champion: Rocket Spear, Electro Boots; Phoenix

This army was built before September 22, 2026, when Throwers went back to movement speed 16 and lost some hitpoints and damage at levels 3 and 4. Expect the push to move a little slower than older replays show.

When to use it

Clan War League and any base where you want steady triples more than a flashy opener. It handles both air-heavy and ground-heavy defenses, since Throwers hit both.

How to run it

  1. Pick the side where a Warden walk funnels straight into the core rather than around it. Send a Balloon ahead to find traps.
  2. Open with the Warden and both Furnaces on that side. Furnaces stay put and spit Firemites at buildings for 60 seconds, which clears the edge for the funnel.
  3. Send the Ice Golem and all Throwers with the Healers from the same side, with a Log Launcher right behind to open the path to the core.
  4. Use the Barbarian King outside to stretch the funnel. The Queen can join him or the main push, depending on the base.
  5. Deal with the enemy Queen and the Scattershot compartment using a Super Wall Breaker and a Totem.
  6. Drop the Royal Champion early and use her ability to snipe defenses and protect the funnel.
  7. Cast Rage when the Throwers reach the core, Freeze the Inferno Artillery or an Inferno Tower when damage spikes, and keep cycling Totems. Put the Skeleton Spell on the Monolith or a Scattershot.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing a walk path that drifts outward. Throwers follow the funnel, and a wide one spreads them thin.
  • Sending the Throwers before the Ice Golem. They need something in front to take the first hits.
  • Casting several Totems at once. They work best spread out over the attack.

3. Dragon Duke Charge Dragon Riders

The same Duke charge opens an air attack. Dragon Riders go straight for defenses and explode when they die, and Inferno Dragons fly with them as a second damage dealer. It works on a wide range of base designs.

Army composition

  • Troops (340): 10 Dragon Riders, 4 Inferno Dragons, 1 Baby Dragon, 1 Headhunter, 2 Wizards, 3 Minions
  • Spells (11): 6 Invisibility, 3 Totem, 1 Freeze, 1 Skeleton
  • Clan Castle: 2 Dragon Riders, 1 Balloon; Revive and Poison spells; Sky Wagon
  • Dragon Duke: Electro Fangs, Fire Heart; Spirit Fox
  • Archer Queen: Giant Arrow, Action Figure; Unicorn
  • Grand Warden: Eternal Tome, Healing Tome; Sneezy
  • Minion Prince: Meteor Staff, Dark Orb; Phoenix

When to use it

Bases with reachable Air Defenses and Air Sweepers. Supercell trimmed the Dragon Rider’s top level and the Duke’s trap reduction in July 2026, so pick this one when the base is weak to air rather than by default.

How to run it

  1. Start the Duke charge from a corner. Avoid the Town Hall side, the Clan Castle side and any spot where several defending heroes stand together.
  2. Time Invisibility Spells so he clears his section and leaves a clean funnel.
  3. Send the Dragon Riders, Inferno Dragons, Grand Warden, Minion Prince and Sky Wagon in together.
  4. Put the Archer Queen in the opposite corner and use her Giant Arrow early on Air Defenses or Air Sweepers to build the second funnel.
  5. Use the Warden’s ability as the army reaches the Town Hall, and the Minion Prince’s ability to slow the core.
  6. Cast the Skeleton Spell near the Monolith to keep it busy, and save the Freeze for a Scattershot.
  7. Revive the Duke near the back end so he finishes the last defenses.

Common mistakes

  • Starting the Duke where defending heroes are grouped. They pull him down before the funnel exists.
  • Releasing the air army too close to the Duke while he is still working, which ends his Royal Rampage.
  • Reviving the Duke far from the army, where he takes all the fire alone.

4. Fireball Super Yetis

The Grand Warden walks to a stacked group of defenses and his Fireball equipment hits the closest one with a large splash. Earthquake Spells finish the section, and Super Yetis with the Barbarian King smash through the gap. It is a strong pick against compact TH17 cores.

Army composition

  • Troops (340): 4 Super Yetis, 4 Healers, 1 Furnace, 1 Yeti, 2 Ice Golems, 2 Super Wall Breakers, 3 Headhunters, 3 Balloons, 1 Valkyrie, 1 Baby Dragon, 1 Wizard, 2 Minions, 3 Archers
  • Spells (11): 4 Invisibility, 2 Earthquake, 2 Freeze, 1 Rage, 1 Skeleton
  • Clan Castle: 1 Super Yeti, 1 Ice Golem, 1 Balloon; Poison and Jump spells; Troop Launcher
  • Grand Warden: Fireball, Rage Gem; Sneezy
  • Barbarian King: Spiky Ball, Earthquake Boots; Phoenix
  • Archer Queen: Giant Arrow, Action Figure; Frosty
  • Royal Champion: Electro Boots, Rocket Spear; Spirit Fox

When to use it

Compact war bases and Legend League attacks where the core defenses sit close together.

How to run it

  1. Walk the Warden toward the stacked defenses. The Fireball flies at the closest defense, so hide any nearer defense under Invisibility (hidden buildings can’t be targeted), then use his ability.
  2. Finish the damaged section with both Earthquakes.
  3. Funnel one side with the Baby Dragon and the other with the Archer Queen.
  4. Send the Ice Golems, Super Yetis, Healers and the King into the gap, with the Troop Launcher near the push.
  5. Cast the Clan Castle Jump to lead the army into the core, and Rage when it meets the heaviest damage.
  6. Send the Royal Champion once the army reaches the middle of the base. Drop the Skeleton Spell on the Monolith so it hits skeletons instead of Yetis.

Common mistakes

  • Aiming the Fireball at a cluster that isn’t really stacked. One destroyed defense won’t open the base.
  • Sending the Yetis before both funnels are set.
  • Walking the Yetis into the Giga Bomb’s range in one tight group. Watch where it sits before you commit.

FAQ

What is the best TH17 attack strategy in 2026?

Dragon Duke Charge Super Bowlers is the easiest strong army to learn. Warden Walk Throwers gives the steadiest results in CWL, and Fireball Super Yetis is the pick for compact cores.

What is the best TH17 army for war?

All four are war armies. Scout the Town Hall and Giga Bomb positions first, since every plan here depends on how you deal with them.

How many spells do you get at TH17?

Eleven of your own plus 3 in the level 13 Clan Castle. Invisibility, Totem, Freeze, Skeleton, Poison and Earthquake take 1 slot each; Rage, Jump and Revive take 2.

Are Throwers still good at TH17 after the September 2026 nerf?

The cut was small: speed went from 18 back to 16, and levels 3 and 4 lost 100 to 150 hitpoints and 10 damage. The army above still works, but a clean funnel matters more than before.
