Builder Base

By October 1st, 2026No Comments

Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

The Builder Base is Clash of Clans’ second village, a separate island you sail to on the Boat, with its own buildings, troops, two heroes and two resources (Builder Gold and Builder Elixir). Since the Builder Base 2.0 update on May 15, 2023 the top level is Builder Hall 10, battles are no longer head-to-head, and from Builder Hall 6 every attack has two stages worth up to six stars. This guide covers how attacks work today, what each Builder Hall unlocks, the heroes and troop abilities, and the buildings that matter most, with links to every Builder Base page on the wiki.

How to get to the Builder Base

A broken Boat sits on the shore of your Home Village. Repairing it is free and takes a few seconds once your Town Hall is level 6; older accounts were allowed to do it from Town Hall 4. The first trip runs a short tutorial. You land next to a ruined level 1 Builder Hall surrounded by broken buildings, and upgrading the Hall to level 2 repairs most of them for you. Three ruins stay broken until you choose to pay for them: the Gem Mine, the Clock Tower and the Battle Machine. After the tutorial, tapping the Boat moves you between villages instantly.

The Builder Base has no Builder’s Huts. The Master Builder works out of the Builder Hall, O.T.T.O joins him as a permanent second builder when you reach Builder Hall 6, and the May 26, 2026 update added one more Builder you can buy from the shop from Builder Hall 2 onward, provided you have already unlocked every Home Village builder.

As in the Home Village, you must place every building your Builder Hall allows before you can upgrade the Hall. The Gem Mine, Clock Tower and Battle Machine are the exceptions.

How Builder Base 2.0 battles work

Head-to-head Versus battles are gone. You attack whenever you like, and each attack you make opens your own base to one defense against another player, even while you are online. Nobody steals your loot: attacking earns Builder Gold and defending earns Builder Elixir, which piles up in the Elixir Cart near the Boat until you collect it. Trophies go up when you attack and down when someone attacks you, and the amounts depend on each player’s own Builder Hall level.

Two stages from Builder Hall 6

At Builder Hall 6 a cave on the west side of your island opens onto a second stage, a second map of the same size whose central building is O.T.T.O’s Outpost instead of the Builder Hall. You decide which defenses sit on which stage, within limits set by the Builder Hall level; at Builder Hall 10 each stage holds up to 14 defenses, 100 Wall pieces and 12 traps.

  1. You attack Stage 1 with your army and one hero. To reach Stage 2 you must destroy Stage 1 completely.
  2. Surviving troops and your hero go back to the deploy bar. Troops you never deployed can be swapped for other troops before Stage 2 starts.
  3. The Healing Hut restores part of each survivor’s health, and each Reinforcement Camp adds an extra troop slot that only becomes usable in Stage 2.
  4. You may continue with the same hero at its remaining health, or swap to your other hero for Stage 2.

When the Outpost is destroyed it releases a swarm of Zappies that keep fighting, so do not assume Stage 2 is over the moment it falls.

Bronze Stars, Silver Stars and the Star Bonus

Stars work like the Home Village on each stage: one for the hall (Builder Hall or Outpost), one for 50% destruction, one for 100%. Stage 1 stars are Bronze and Stage 2 stars are Silver, for a maximum of 6 stars and 200% per attack.

Result Stars earned
58% on Stage 1 including the Builder Hall 2 Bronze (2 stars)
100% on Stage 1, 10% on Stage 2 without the Outpost 3 Bronze (3 stars)
100% on Stage 1, 58% on Stage 2 including the Outpost 3 Bronze + 2 Silver (5 stars)
100% on both stages 3 Bronze + 3 Silver (6 stars)

Stars count toward the daily Star Bonus, which replaced the old three-wins bonus. Your league sets how many stars it needs (between 7 and 12) and how much it pays. Once you claim it you can keep attacking for regular loot, and Supercell raised Builder Gold and Builder Elixir battle rewards for almost every league on March 24, 2025.

You can set a separate defensive layout for the Builder Base (added April 17, 2024), which lets you keep experimenting on the active layout without weakening the one attackers see.

What each Builder Hall level unlocks (BH1 to BH10)

The table lists what is new at each level. Extra copies of buildings you already own are left out. Buildings marked “ruin” are already on the island and get repaired rather than bought.

Builder Hall New buildings and traps New troops Hero
1 Cannon, Gold Mine, Elixir Collector, Army Camp, Builder Barracks, Star Laboratory (all ruins), Walls None None
2 Archer Tower, Double Cannon, Gold Storage, Elixir Storage, Push Trap Raged Barbarian, Sneaky Archer None
3 Gem Mine (ruin), Hidden Tesla, Firecrackers, Crusher, Spring Trap, Mine Boxer Giant, Beta Minion None
4 Clock Tower (ruin), Guard Post, Air Bombs, Mega Mine Bomber, Baby Dragon None
5 Battle Machine Altar (ruin), Multi Mortar Cannon Cart Battle Machine
6 Stage 2 with O.T.T.O’s Outpost, Reinforcement Camp, Healing Hut, Roaster Night Witch None
7 Giant Cannon Drop Ship None
8 Mega Tesla, Battle Copter Altar Power P.E.K.K.A Battle Copter
9 B.O.B Control, Lava Launcher, second Reinforcement Camp Hog Glider None
10 X-Bow Electrofire Wizard None

Builder Hall 10 also raised the troop level cap to 20 in the Star Laboratory and the hero cap to 35. The resources hub covers the mines, collectors and storages on both islands.

Builder Base heroes: Battle Machine and Battle Copter

Both heroes are machines the Master Builder rides into battle. Neither one defends your base. You bring one per stage, and at the start of Stage 2 you can keep the same one or switch.

Hero Unlock Cost Type Ability
Battle Machine Builder Hall 5 (repair the altar) 900,000 Builder Elixir Ground, melee, single target Electric Hammer: heals the Machine and powers up its next three swings; from level 15, charge levels 2 and 3 chain lightning to nearby buildings
Battle Copter Builder Hall 8 2,500,000 Builder Elixir Air, ranged Bomb Rush: heals the Copter, which then dives at its target and drops a large bomb

Abilities charge in three tiers. Each hero deploys with tier 1 ready and reaches tier 3 roughly 40 seconds after you last used it, so the decision is whether to fire early or wait for the bigger effect. The Battle Copter starts at level 15 when you build it, which counts toward the B.O.B Control requirement of 45 combined hero levels.

Builder Base troops and their abilities

Builder Base 2.0 gave most troops an ability and cut the number of troops per camp slot, so each slot matters more. A troop is automatically raised to a minimum level when you unlock it. Troops come from the Builder Barracks, cost nothing to train, and are upgraded in the Star Laboratory.

Troop Builder Hall Ability
Raged Barbarian 2 Passive Rage: faster and harder-hitting for a short time after deploying
Sneaky Archer 2 Passive Cloak: invisible to defenses for a short time after deploying
Boxer Giant 3 First punch deals extra damage; one-time Boxer Block shield makes him invulnerable briefly
Beta Minion 3 Opening shots are faster, longer-range and stronger
Bomber 4 Bouncing Bomb on a cooldown: a big bomb that bounces twice and wrecks Walls
Baby Dragon 4 Hits harder with no other air units close by; one-time Fiery Sneeze cone of fire
Cannon Cart 5 Switches between a mobile close-range mode and a stationary long-range Mortar Mode
Night Witch 6 One-time Bat Swarm of extra-damage bats
Drop Ship 7 One-time Skeleton Bomb: area and Wall damage plus a drop of Skeletons
Power P.E.K.K.A (was Super P.E.K.K.A) 8 One-time Overcharge explosion around her
Hog Glider 9 Crashes onto a defense and stuns it, then the Hog Rider fights on
Electrofire Wizard 10 Toggles between an Inferno beam that ramps up on one target and a chaining Electro bolt

Builder Base buildings worth knowing

Defenses and traps

Builder Base defenses mostly mirror Home Village ones with a twist. The Crusher pounds ground troops right next to it, which makes it the usual guard for the Builder Hall. Firecrackers, Air Bombs, the Mega Tesla and the Roaster are the answers to the Battle Copter and air armies. The Guard Post spawns defending troops and has counted as a non-defense for targeting since 2.0. The Giant Cannon, Lava Launcher and the Builder Base X-Bow (BH10, ground or air mode) round out the top end. Traps are the Push Trap, Spring Trap, Mine and Mega Mine. The Spring Trap was reworked on October 6, 2025, with a fixed capacity and a new level 5.

Three Builder Base defenses also feed the Home Village. Gearing up a Home Village Cannon, Archer Tower or Mortar needs a level 4 Double Cannon, a level 6 Archer Tower and a level 8 Multi Mortar here, and the geared-up Cannon and Archer Tower later merge into the Town Hall 17 Multi-Gear Tower.

Support and economy buildings

  • Clock Tower (BH4): runs every Builder Base timer ten times faster for a short boost, with a free boost on a 22-hour cooldown. It does not shorten the Star Bonus timer.
  • Gem Mine (BH3): produces Gems slowly. Worth repairing early.
  • O.T.T.O’s Outpost (BH6): the Stage 2 hall, upgradable to level 10, home of your second builder. Its level does not gate any other upgrade.
  • B.O.B Control (BH9, formerly the O.T.T.O Hut): finish its tasks (three gear-ups, a level 18 troop, a level 9 defense, 45 combined hero levels) and B.O.B becomes a sixth builder in your Home Village.
  • Healing Hut and Reinforcement Camp (BH6, second camp at BH9): both only matter in Stage 2.
  • Elixir Cart: stores the Builder Elixir you win on defense and lists recent defenses with replays.
  • Gold Mine, Elixir Collector, Gold Storage and Elixir Storage: from BH6 each stage needs its own share of storages.

What changed from the old Builder Base

If you last played before May 2023, these are the differences you will notice first:

  • Versus battles, where two players attacked each other at the same time, were removed. Attacks and defenses are now separate events.
  • The three-wins daily bonus became the Star Bonus, and you can keep earning loot after it.
  • Builder Hall 10, the second stage, the Battle Copter, the Electrofire Wizard, the X-Bow, the Healing Hut and the Reinforcement Camp were added.
  • Walls became single pieces instead of five-piece runs.
  • Super P.E.K.K.A was renamed Power P.E.K.K.A, and B.O.B replaced O.T.T.O as the extra Home Village builder.

Builder Base tips

  • Upgrade the Star Laboratory and your main army before pushing the Builder Hall. Rushed halls face tougher bases with weaker troops.
  • Build your Stage 1 layout to stop the 100% clear. An attacker who never reaches Stage 2 caps out at three Bronze Stars, and your defense earns more Builder Elixir.
  • Save hero abilities for the moment that wins the stage: a tier 3 Bomb Rush on a Crusher cluster, or an Electric Hammer heal when the Machine is low.
  • Repair the Clock Tower and Gem Mine as soon as you can afford them. They pay for themselves over a long game.
