Leagues and Ranked Battles

By October 1st, 2026No Comments

Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

Leagues in Clash of Clans now live inside Ranked Battles, a weekly tournament mode that opens at Town Hall 7. You sign up, get a fixed number of attacks against players in your league, and the top of each group moves up while the bottom moves down, from Skeleton League 1 to Electro League 33 and then Legend III, II and I. Regular Battles, with unlimited attacks and no trophies, sit alongside it.

Battles and Ranked Battles: the October 2025 split

The Ranked update on October 6, 2025 split multiplayer into two modes and replaced the old trophy ladder (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Crystal, Master, Champion, Titan, then Legend). Players were moved into the new leagues based on their Town Hall level and trophy count at the time, and your best score from the old system stays on your profile.

Battles Ranked Battles
Unlocks at Town Hall 2 Town Hall 7
Attacks Unlimited Limited per weekly tournament (per day in Legend I)
Trophies None won or lost Earned here only, reset after each tournament
Matchmaking By Town Hall level; you can skip bases with Next Within your league group; no Next, no backing out
Your loot on defense Can be stolen; Magic Shields protect you Never lost; attackers’ loot is generated by the game
League Bonus and Star Bonus Yes, sized by your league and Town Hall Yes, same rules

Both modes count toward the Star Bonus, and your league sets the size of your League Bonus in both, so climbing in Ranked also makes your regular farming attacks pay more.

How weekly tournaments work

Each week you sign up for a tournament and get placed in a group of up to 100 players from your league. Since the April 2026 update, tournaments start on Monday at 5 PM UTC. During the week you have a set number of attacks, and your base can be attacked the same number of times.

Some differences from regular Battles to know before your first Ranked attack:

  • You can’t skip a base. A confirmation screen shows your army first, and once you enter, the attack counts.
  • Temporary event troops and spells are blocked in Ranked (since November 2025). Super Troops you boosted through an event but couldn’t normally boost are blocked too.
  • Since February 2026 you have to finish a Ranked battle before starting the next one.
  • You choose a defensive layout and defensive Clan Castle troops for Ranked, separate from your home layout if you want. A snapshot is taken when the tournament starts, so traps are always armed and heroes defend even while upgrading. Layout changes made after battling begins apply to the next tournament.

How trophies are scored

Every Ranked attack is worth up to 40 trophies. What you take depends on stars and damage:

Result Trophies for the attacker
3 stars 40
2 stars 16 at 50% damage, plus 1 for every 3% above that (32 at 98%)
1 star 5 at 1%, plus 1 for every 9% (15 at 91%)
0 stars 1 per 10% damage, up to 4; nothing below 10%

The defender gets the rest of the 40. If the attacker scores no stars, the defender gets all 40. Below Legend I you can’t lose trophies during a tournament, only gain them. If you take fewer defenses than your league allows, each missing one is filled in with the average of the defenses you did take.

Promotion, demotion and ties

When the week ends, your group is ranked by trophies earned. The top share promotes one league, the bottom share demotes one league, and everyone else stays. Ties go to the higher average destruction per attack, then the lower average destruction on defense, then the shorter average attack time.

The only way to jump more than one league is to upgrade your Town Hall. If your new Town Hall’s league floor is above your current league, you move straight to that floor at the end of the tournament.

All Ranked leagues and attacks per week

Leagues are named after troops and numbered 1 to 33, three tiers per name. The battle counts below are the current ones after the February and April 2026 changes. Supercell has adjusted the promotion and demotion shares several times, so treat those as approximate.

League Tiers Attacks per week Promoted Demoted
Skeleton 1-3 6 50% none in 1, 5% in 2-3
Barbarian 4-6 6 50% 5%
Archer 7-9 8 40-50% 5%
Wizard 10-12 8 35-50% 10%
Valkyrie 13-15 10 35-50% 10%
Witch 16-18 10 35-50% 10%
Golem 19-21 12 35-50% 10%
P.E.K.K.A 22-24 12 30-50% 15%
Titan 25-27 12 30-50% 15%
Dragon 28-30 14 25-30% 15%
Electro 31-33 18 15-20% 15%
Legend III 1 24 Top 5 per group 15%
Legend II 1 30 Top 3 per group 15%
Legend I 1 8 per day None (top league) Below rank 10,000 each week

The April 2026 update cut battle counts at the top: Titan went from 14 to 12 attacks, Dragon from 18 to 14 and Electro from 24 to 18, with Legend III and II added at 24 and 30.

League floors by Town Hall

You can’t drop below your Town Hall’s floor. If you finish in a demotion spot while on your floor, you simply stay.

Town Hall League floor
7 Skeleton 1
8 Skeleton 2
9 Skeleton 3
10 Barbarian 4
11 Barbarian 6
12 Archer 8
13 Wizard 11
14 Valkyrie 14
15 Witch 17
16 Golem 20
17 P.E.K.K.A 23
18 Titan 26

The April 2026 update lowered the Town Hall 16 floor from Golem 21 to Golem 20 and the Town Hall 17 floor from Titan 25 to P.E.K.K.A 23, and gave Town Hall 18 its own floor at Titan 26.

Inactivity

Not signing up, or signing up and making no attacks, counts as inactive. Since April 2026 you can be inactive for 4 weeks without losing your league. After that you drop one league for every further 4 weeks until you reach your floor, and 4 more weeks at the floor makes you unranked. A warning with a countdown shows on the Ranked screen before any of this happens.

Legend League: Legend III, II and I

Promoting out of Electro 33 takes you into Legend League. Since the Sound of Clash update on April 27, 2026, Legend is split into three tiers. All three pay the same Star Bonus and League Bonus; what changes is the format and the difficulty.

Tier Format Attacks Moving up or down
Legend III Weekly tournament 24 per week Top 5 per group promote
Legend II Weekly tournament 30 per week Top 3 per group promote
Legend I 4-week tournament, daily League Days 8 per day Below rank 10,000 at the end of Sunday drops to Legend II on Monday

How Legend I is different

Legend I keeps the old Legend League feel. Each League Day you get 8 attacks and can be attacked up to 8 times, and unused attacks don’t carry over. Unlike the lower leagues, defending costs trophies here: you lose what the attacker earns, except on a 0-star defense. Everyone enters at 5,000 trophies and is reset to 5,000 at the start of each tournament, with anything above 5,000 banked as Legend Trophies that never go away. Missed defenses are filled in with the average of the current and previous day’s results. The leaderboard shows the top 200 and warns you when you are at risk of demotion.

Reaching Legend III completes the last tier of the League Master achievement, so you don’t need Legend I for it.

Battle modifiers in Legend

All three Legend tiers make attacking harder with battle modifiers. Electro 32 and 33 lost their modifiers in April 2026, so Legend is now the only place they apply in Ranked.

Modifier Legend III Legend II Legend I
Defense damage +10% +15% +20%
Defending hero hitpoints and damage +10% +15% +20%
Guardian hitpoints and damage +5% +10% +20%
Attacking hero hitpoints and damage -5% -10% -20%

The defense boost doesn’t touch traps (except the Tornado Trap), defending troops other than heroes, or Spell Tower spells. The attacking hero cut applies to their base stats and to passive boosts from Hero Equipment, but not to equipment abilities that deal a fixed amount of damage.

Shields and Revenge

Shields were rebuilt in the October 2025 update and now only matter for regular Battles and Legend I.

  • Magic Shield: you get an 8-hour Magic Shield when an attacker takes enough of your loot in a regular Battle. It protects your resources in regular Battles only, and attacking no longer shortens it. You can also buy 1-, 2- and 7-day Magic Shields with Gems, each with a cooldown before you can buy it again.
  • Legend Shield: bought with Gems in Legend I. It lets you skip attacking and defending for whole League Days, starting from the next one, so you can’t lose trophies while you’re away. You can still play regular Battles and wars.
  • Ranked defenses never give a shield, because you never lose loot in them.

Revenge came back in the same update. If someone takes a big chunk of your resources in a regular Battle, you have 12 hours to attack a copy of their base from your Defense Log. That copy holds at least as much loot as they took from you, Magic Shields don’t block it, and the other player loses nothing.

League Bonus and Star Bonus

Older guides, including the 2014 list that used to live on this site, give fixed League Bonus amounts for Bronze III through Champion. Those leagues are gone and the numbers no longer apply. What still works the same way:

  • Every multiplayer win, Ranked or regular, pays a League Bonus on top of the loot you took.
  • The size depends on your current league and your Town Hall. Higher leagues pay more.
  • You get the full bonus at 70% damage or more. Below that it scales down: 50% damage earns 80% of the bonus. A 0-star loss earns none, and stars don’t change the amount.
  • Unranked players still get a bonus, smaller than the one at their Town Hall’s league floor, and players at Town Hall 6 and below get bonuses too even though they can’t enter Ranked.

The Star Bonus pays out after 5 stars from either mode, again scaled by league and Town Hall, with ores added from Town Hall 8 once you have a Blacksmith. In April 2026 Supercell raised the Star Bonus slightly, made both bonuses scale more when you reach a new league or Town Hall, and trimmed Ranked battle loot to balance it.

Climbing the leagues without spending Gems

Gems can’t buy trophies, and shields do nothing in Ranked, so climbing comes down to your results in a limited number of attacks. An older page here was about reaching Master League without gemming; Master League no longer exists, but the parts of that advice that still hold are below.

  • Use every attack. A tournament has a fixed number, so an unused attack is trophies you can’t get back.
  • Plan for three stars. A 3-star is worth 40; a 98% two-star is worth 32.
  • Set a strong Ranked defense. Your Ranked layout doesn’t have to be the one people see when they visit, so keep a tested war-style layout there and fill the defensive Clan Castle with troops that suit it.
  • Be in an active clan. Clan Castle troops matter on both attack and defense. Since March 2025, donating costs the donor Elixir or Dark Elixir, so clans that donate well are worth seeking out.
  • Think before upgrading your Town Hall mid-week. It moves you to the new floor, which also means harder opponents straight away.

Clan War Leagues are separate

Clan War Leagues are a clan competition with their own league ladder and don’t use your Ranked league. CWL gained 5v5 wars in February 2026 and four new leagues in April 2026 (Titan III, II, I and Legend). Regular Clan Wars don’t affect your league either.

Leagues FAQ

How many attacks do you get in Ranked each week?

Between 6 (Skeleton and Barbarian leagues) and 30 (Legend II), depending on your league. Legend I works per day: 8 attacks every League Day.

What Town Hall do you need for Ranked Battles?

Town Hall 7. Regular Battles are open from Town Hall 2.

When does the weekly tournament reset?

Tournaments start on Monday at 5 PM UTC, and trophies reset with each new tournament.

What happened to Master and Champion League?

They were replaced in October 2025 by the numbered, troop-named leagues. Players were placed in the new system based on their Town Hall and trophy count.

Can you lose trophies in Ranked?

Not below Legend I. You only gain trophies during a tournament, and promotion depends on how many you earned compared with your group. In Legend I, defenses cost trophies.
