Clash of Clans Troops

By October 1st, 2026No Comments

Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

Troops are the units you train in the Barracks and Dark Barracks and send into battle from the Home Village. This page lists all 19 Elixir troops and 13 Dark Elixir troops in the game at Town Hall 18, with the building level that unlocks each one, the camp space it takes and what it goes after. Super Troops, Siege Machines and event troops are covered further down.

How training works now

If you are coming back after a long break, most of what you remember about training is gone. The June 27, 2022 update removed the Elixir and Dark Elixir cost of training troops, spells and Siege Machines. The “Clash Anytime” update on March 24, 2025 then removed training time completely, along with hero regeneration. Training Potions, Training Treats and the Training Boost perk were taken out at the same time. You pick an army and it is ready right away, which is why the old troop cost calculator and time planner on this site no longer exist: there is nothing left to calculate.

Since the Town Hall 15 update in October 2022 you have one Barracks and one Dark Barracks instead of several of each. Upgrading the building unlocks the next troop in line, and it keeps training while the upgrade runs. Older guides on this site split the Elixir troops into Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3; the game never used those labels, so this page groups troops by the building that trains them.

Your Elixir and Dark Elixir now go into research. Troop levels are raised in the Laboratory, with Elixir for Elixir troops and Dark Elixir for Dark troops. One cost did move the other way: since March 2025, donating troops to a clanmate’s Clan Castle costs the donor Elixir or Dark Elixir. You can also dismiss troops from your camps at any time if you want to swap an army.

Housing space and Army Camps

Every troop has a housing space value, and the combined capacity of your Army Camps sets how big your army can be. A Golem takes 30 spaces, so it costs you the same room as 30 Barbarians. Barbarians, Archers and Goblins are the only permanent troops that fit in a single space.

You get your first Army Camp at Town Hall 1, a second at Town Hall 3, a third at Town Hall 5 and the fourth at Town Hall 7. A level 1 camp holds 20 troops. Level 14, added on April 27, 2026 for Town Hall 18, holds 88, so four maxed camps give 352 spaces. Heroes, pets and Siege Machines do not use camp space, and Clan Castle reinforcements sit in the Clan Castle rather than your camps.

Camps keep working while you upgrade them, so there is no reason to delay a camp upgrade before a war. They also show up empty to attackers and have no effect on defense.

Elixir troops unlocked in the Barracks

Each Barracks level adds one troop. The Town Hall shown is the minimum needed to build that Barracks level. “Nearest target” means the troop has no favorite and attacks whatever building is closest.

Troop Barracks level (Town Hall) Housing space What it targets
Barbarian 1 (TH1) 1 Nearest target; ground-only melee
Archer 2 (TH1) 1 Nearest target; ranged, hits ground and air
Giant 3 (TH2) 5 Defenses
Goblin 4 (TH2) 1 Resource buildings, which take double damage
Wall Breaker 5 (TH3) 2 Walls; blows itself up for heavy wall damage
Balloon 6 (TH4) 5 Defenses; flies, but can only hit ground targets
Wizard 7 (TH5) 4 Nearest target; splash, hits ground and air
Healer 8 (TH6) 14 Does not attack; flies and heals ground troops and heroes
Dragon 9 (TH7) 20 Nearest target; flying splash, hits ground and air
P.E.K.K.A 10 (TH8) 25 Nearest target; slow, hard-hitting ground melee
Baby Dragon 11 (TH9) 10 Nearest target; flying splash, stronger when no other air units are near
Miner 12 (TH10) 6 Nearest target; tunnels underground past walls and traps
Electro Dragon 13 (TH11) 30 Nearest target; chain lightning that jumps between targets
Yeti 14 (TH12) 18 Nearest target; ground melee, releases Yetimites as it takes damage
Dragon Rider 15 (TH13) 25 Defenses; flies and explodes when it falls
Electro Titan 16 (TH14) 32 Nearest target; hits ground and air, damage aura hurts nearby buildings and troops
Root Rider 17 (TH15) 20 Defenses; rides straight over walls and breaks them fast
Thrower 18 (TH16) 16 Nearest target; long range, hits ground and air
Meteor Golem 19 (TH17) 40 Nearest target; splash on ground and air, five times damage to walls

Dark Elixir troops unlocked in the Dark Barracks

The Dark Barracks unlocks at Town Hall 7 and adds one troop per level, the same way the Barracks does. Dark troops tend to do one specific job well, such as flying tanks, hero hunting or support, rather than being general damage dealers.

Troop Dark Barracks level (Town Hall) Housing space What it targets
Minion 1 (TH7) 2 Nearest target; fast flier, hits ground and air
Hog Rider 2 (TH7) 5 Defenses; jumps over walls
Valkyrie 3 (TH8) 8 Nearest target; axe swings splash nearby ground targets
Golem 4 (TH8) 30 Defenses; huge health, splits into Golemites on death
Witch 5 (TH9) 12 Nearest target; splash on ground and air, summons Skeletons
Lava Hound 6 (TH9) 30 Air Defenses; flying tank that bursts into Lava Pups
Bowler 7 (TH10) 6 Nearest target; bouncing boulder hits a second target behind the first
Ice Golem 8 (TH11) 15 Defenses; slows what it hits, freezes the area when it dies
Headhunter 9 (TH12) 6 Enemy heroes first, with bonus damage against them
Apprentice Warden 10 (TH13) 20 Nearest target; hits ground and air, aura adds health to nearby troops
Druid 11 (TH14) 16 Heals ground and air troops, then turns into a bear that targets defenses
Furnace 12 (TH15) 18 Does not move; spawns Firemites that damage buildings for one minute
Ruin Witch 13 (TH16) 26 Rubble of destroyed buildings, which she turns into Ruin Knights

Super Troops and the Super Sauna

Super Troops are boosted versions of regular troops with a special ability, more health and damage, and a bigger housing cost. You boost them at the Super Sauna, which appears in your village at Town Hall 11.

A boost costs 25,000 Dark Elixir or a Super Potion from your Magic Items, and it lasts three days. While it is active, the Super version shows up in the Barracks or Dark Barracks next to the normal troop, and you can train either. You can run two boosts at once, or three during a Super Troop Spotlight event, where one of the three has to be the featured troop. A Super Troop is always the same level as the base troop you have researched, so the base troop has to reach a minimum level before it can be boosted. Some of those levels are only reachable at Town Hall 12 or 13. Since June 2023 you can cancel a boost early, which frees the slot but removes those Super Troops from your army.

Unlike event troops, Super Troops can be donated, as long as the receiving Clan Castle is high enough level to hold the base troop at its boost level.

Super Troop Base troop Base level needed to boost Housing space
Super Barbarian Barbarian 8 5
Super Archer Archer 8 12
Super Giant Giant 9 10
Sneaky Goblin Goblin 7 3
Super Wall Breaker Wall Breaker 8 8
Rocket Balloon Balloon 8 8
Super Wizard Wizard 9 10
Super Dragon Dragon 7 40
Inferno Dragon Baby Dragon 6 15
Super Miner Miner 7 24
Super Yeti Yeti 3 35
Super Minion Minion 8 12
Super Hog Rider Hog Rider 10 12
Super Valkyrie Valkyrie 7 20
Super Witch Witch 5 40
Ice Hound Lava Hound 5 40
Super Bowler Bowler 4 30

Siege Machines and the Workshop

Siege Machines come from the Workshop, which unlocks at Town Hall 12. Each one carries your Clan Castle troops into the base and lets them out when it breaks or when you tap to release them. You can only bring one into a battle. The Workshop stores one machine at level 1, two at level 2 and three from level 3 on, and like the Barracks it builds them for free and instantly. Machines are upgraded with Elixir in the Laboratory, don’t take Army Camp space, and can be donated to a Clan Castle of level 6 or higher.

Siege Machine Workshop level (Town Hall) What it does
Wall Wrecker 1 (TH12) Drives toward the Town Hall and smashes walls in its path
Battle Blimp 2 (TH12) Flies toward the Town Hall, dropping bombs on the way
Stone Slammer 3 (TH12) Targets defenses with wide splash, like a far tougher Balloon
Siege Barracks 4 (TH13) Parachutes in, stays put and spawns P.E.K.K.As and Wizards
Log Launcher 5 (TH13) Rolls logs forward that crush walls and buildings in a line
Flame Flinger 6 (TH14) Long-range catapult that targets defenses and sets the ground on fire
Battle Drill 7 (TH15) Burrows under walls to a defense and stuns nearby defenses when it surfaces
Troop Launcher 8 (TH16) Stays in place and fires barrels of Barbarians, Archers, Giants and Wall Breakers toward your troops
Sky Wagon 9 (TH17) Flies to defenses and fires barrels holding Minions, a Balloon and a Baby Dragon

Heroes and pets

Heroes are not trained at all. There are six: the Barbarian King, Archer Queen, Minion Prince, Grand Warden, Royal Champion and Dragon Duke. Since November 2024 they live in the Hero Hall instead of separate altars, and pets from the Pet House pair with them. Neither uses Army Camp space.

Builder Base troops

The Builder Base has its own army, trained at the Builder Barracks under the Builder Hall: the Raged Barbarian, Sneaky Archer, Boxer Giant, Beta Minion, Bomber, Baby Dragon, Cannon Cart, Night Witch, Drop Ship, Power P.E.K.K.A, Hog Glider and Electrofire Wizard, plus the Battle Machine and Battle Copter heroes.

Seasonal and event troops

Most seasons bring a temporary troop that you can train only while its event runs. These troops can’t be researched in the Laboratory or donated, and their level is set by your Town Hall. Since the Town Hall 18 update on November 17, 2025 they are also banned from Ranked battles, Clan Wars and Clan War Leagues, so treat them as a farming bonus. Some come back in later events, and one went permanent: the Meteor Golem started as a reward in the Cosmic Rock event in October 2025 and joined the Barracks a month later. The October 2026 season’s temporary troop is the Totem Thrower. For army ideas that use the troops above, see attack strategies and the spells page.
