Best TH18 Attack Strategies (2026)

By October 1st, 2026No Comments

Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

The best Town Hall 18 attack strategies in 2026 are Dragon Duke Charge Hydra, Rocket Backpack Throwers, Dragon Duke Charge Super Bowlers and RC Walk Meteor Golems. The first two are the army types Supercell’s July 2026 war data put at the top.

Each army below comes with the full composition (troops, spells, siege, Clan Castle, heroes, equipment and pets), when to use it, a step-by-step plan and common mistakes. All four fit a maxed TH18 camp: 352 housing space, 11 spell slots, and a Clan Castle with 55 troop spaces, 4 spell slots and 2 siege machines.

What the TH18 meta looks like in October 2026

Supercell’s July 9, 2026 balance post put numbers on the war meta. Dragon armies led by the Dragon Duke and Dragon Riders were the single most used army in TH18-vs-TH18 wars, in roughly 20% of attacks. Throwers backed by Healers came second, and together the two styles covered about 40% of those attacks.

Supercell then nudged both. On July 14 the Duke’s trap damage reduction dropped to 20% and the level 6 Dragon Rider lost a little hitpoints and damage, while Electro Dragons and the Meteor Golem got buffs (the Meteor Golem’s was the biggest of the round). On September 22, 2026 the Thrower went back to movement speed 16 and lost some hitpoints and damage at levels 3 and 4. Both styles are still strong picks, with a little less room for error than in the summer.

A few TH18 rules shape every plan. The Town Hall has no weapon at TH18; one of three Guardians (Smasher, Longshot or Logger) jumps down from it instead, and because the Town Hall no longer counts as a defense, defense-targeting troops walk past it. Guardians aren’t heroes, so Headhunters don’t go after them, and the Poison Spell only hits them at 30% strength. The Revenge Tower wakes up as your attack destroys buildings, so it is strongest at the back end. Event and temporary troops are banned from Ranked, Clan Wars and Clan War League, and none of the armies below use them.

The four armies at a glance

Army Best use Main damage Spells you bring
Dragon Duke Charge Hydra War and Legend League, air-weak bases Dragon Riders, Inferno Dragons 6 Invisibility, 2 Totem, 2 Freeze, Poison
Rocket Backpack Throwers War and CWL, bases with a stacked section 11 Throwers 3 Lightning, 3 Totem, Overgrowth, Freeze, Poison, Skeleton
Dragon Duke Charge Super Bowlers Compact bases; strongest ground push Super Bowlers 6 Invisibility, 2 Rage, Freeze
RC Walk Meteor Golems Tough cores where you need a tank Meteor Golems 5 Invisibility, 2 Totem, Recall, Freeze, Poison

Ranked Battles give you a limited number of attacks per weekly tournament, so take the army you trust most. Regular Battles carry no trophy risk; if you farm there, the Greedy Raven pet (TH18) deals five times its damage to resource buildings near its hero.

1. Dragon Duke Charge Hydra

The Duke charges one side while his Spirit Fox keeps him hidden in bursts, carving out a funnel. A Lava Hound then leads the Dragon Riders and Inferno Dragons in, and Rocket Balloons pick off outside defenses.

Army composition

When to use it

War, CWL and Legend League bases where the Duke can clear one whole side and the Queen can reach Air Defenses on the other. It also recovers well when the opening doesn’t go perfectly.

How to run it

  1. Start the Duke from a corner or one side. Send the Baby Dragon to pick off outside buildings while he works.
  2. While the Spirit Fox is alive, an Invisibility Spell roughly every 10 seconds covers the gaps in its invisibility. If the Fox dies, switch to one about every 4 seconds. Make each spell cover both the Duke and the Fox.
  3. When the Duke falls or the Invisibility runs out, put the Archer Queen in the opposite corner and use her ability to snipe defenses and finish the second funnel. Giant Arrow deals double damage to Air Defenses.
  4. Send the Lava Hound first, then the Dragon Riders, Inferno Dragons, Grand Warden, Minion Prince and Sky Wagon together.
  5. Cycle Totems onto the Guardian, defending heroes and big defenses. Use the Warden’s ability when the army reaches the core, and the Minion Prince’s ability right after or at the back end, wherever the pressure is worse.
  6. Revive the Duke and cover him with Totems so he keeps taking out defenses. Use the Rocket Balloons on outside defenses during the back end.

Common mistakes

  • Dropping air troops near the Duke during his charge. Any friendly air unit within 6 tiles switches off Royal Rampage, the passive that doubles his damage.
  • Letting the Duke run into a Seeking Air Mine. His trap damage reduction is down to 20%, so scout the trap spots first.

2. Rocket Backpack Throwers

In this Thrower and Healer army, Lightning and Earthquake Spells soften a group of defenses and the Duke’s Rocket Backpack finishes it, so eleven Throwers push into a base that is already missing a section. Throwers attack ground and air from 6 tiles away, which keeps them behind the tank and inside Healer range.

Army composition

The Rocket Backpack sends the Duke straight through the base breathing fire while he can’t be targeted. A bug that sometimes started the dash without flames or cut it short was fixed in the August 30, 2026 update.

When to use it

Bases with one tight group of defenses that three Lightning Spells and the Rocket Backpack can finish. It is a methodical ground push, so it suits war and CWL more than quick Ranked attacks.

How to run it

  1. Send the Dragon Duke toward the target group. The Angry Jelly keeps him on defenses. When he and the Jelly are right next to it, cast one Earthquake and use his ability.
  2. Use the second Earthquake with all three Lightning Spells on the next line of defenses the dash weakened. The funnel is now set.
  3. Send the Ice Golem, then every Thrower with the Healers. Drop the Royal Champion to stretch the funnel, and put the Queen on the opposite side with her ability to build the second funnel.
  4. Open the first compartment with a Super Wall Breaker while the Log Launcher breaks walls toward the Town Hall.
  5. Cast Overgrowth to narrow the path and keep the Throwers grouped. Wrapped buildings can’t attack or be damaged, so use it on defenses you want out of the fight.
  6. Use the second Super Wall Breaker to send the Queen into the next compartment. Revive the Duke once the main army has reached his position.
  7. Freeze the defenses doing the most damage, and keep Totems going on the Guardian and defending heroes.

Common mistakes

  • Casting the Lightning and Earthquake opener on the wrong group. The whole attack depends on it.
  • Reviving the Duke too early. Alone, he takes all the fire; next to the army, he keeps adding value.
  • Running this army from older replays without adjusting. Since the September 22 cut, Throwers walk slower and the level 3 and 4 versions are a little less sturdy, so the funnel has to be cleaner.

3. Dragon Duke Charge Super Bowlers

The Duke clears a whole side, then Super Bowlers push with Ice Golems in front and Healers behind. The Ice Golems freeze nearby defenses when they die, and an Electro Titan, whose electric aura damages everything around her, deals with the skeletons that would otherwise distract the Bowlers.

Army composition

  • Troops (352): 5 Super Bowlers, 5 Healers, 2 Ice Golems, 1 Electro Titan, 1 Apprentice Warden, 2 Super Wall Breakers, 2 Headhunters, 1 Baby Dragon, 1 Balloon, 2 Minions, 3 Archers
  • Spells (11): 6 Invisibility, 2 Rage, 1 Freeze
  • Workshop: Troop Launcher and Sky Wagon
  • Clan Castle: 2 Ice Golems, 1 Super Valkyrie, 1 Balloon; Revive, Totem and Angry spells; Troop Launcher and Sky Wagon
  • Dragon Duke: Electro Fangs, Fire Heart; Spirit Fox
  • Barbarian King: Snake Bracelet, Spiky Ball; Frosty
  • Archer Queen: Magic Mirror, Action Figure; Sneezy
  • Grand Warden: Heroic Torch, Eternal Tome; Greedy Raven

When to use it

Compact war bases and any base that is built to stop air. It is the hardest-hitting ground push of the four once the Bowlers are inside.

How to run it

  1. Start the Duke from a corner or straight into a compartment. Use the same Invisibility rhythm as the Hydra: about every 10 seconds while the Spirit Fox lives, every 4 seconds after.
  2. Let him clear the entire side before you commit the main army.
  3. Send the Ice Golems and Super Bowlers with the Healers, Grand Warden and Sky Wagon. Put the King and Queen on the opposite side for the second funnel, and use the Super Wall Breakers to open the base.
  4. As the army moves inside, cast the first Rage and use the Warden’s ability together, then the second Rage straight after to keep the Bowlers at full damage through the core.
  5. Revive the Duke once the main army reaches him so he keeps clearing outside defenses.
  6. If the Bowlers start chasing non-defensive buildings, the Angry Spell sends every troop in its radius at the nearest defense for a short time.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving out the Electro Titan against a base with Skeleton Traps or a Monolith. Distracted Bowlers stall in the core.
  • Sending the Bowlers before the Duke has finished his side, which leaves them a wide, messy funnel.

4. RC Walk Meteor Golems

A Meteor Golem is two Meteormites stacked together: the bottom one throws the top one at a target, they split, then pair up again and repeat. They tank and distract like few other troops. The Meteor Golem was cut hard after TH18 launched, then got the biggest buff of the July 2026 balance round: level 3 now has 17,500 hitpoints and 580 damage.

Army composition

  • Troops (352): 5 Meteor Golems, 5 Healers, 1 Ice Golem, 1 Apprentice Warden, 1 Super Wall Breaker, 2 Headhunters, 2 Balloons, 1 Baby Dragon, 1 Wizard, 1 Archer, 1 Minion
  • Spells (11): 5 Invisibility, 2 Totem, 1 Recall, 1 Freeze, 1 Poison
  • Clan Castle: 1 Meteor Golem, 1 Ice Golem; Overgrowth and Rage spells; Troop Launcher
  • Royal Champion: Electro Boots, Rocket Spear; Spirit Fox
  • Barbarian King: Spiky Ball, Snake Bracelet; Phoenix
  • Archer Queen: Magic Mirror, Action Figure; Frosty
  • Grand Warden: Eternal Tome, Rage Gem; Sneezy

When to use it

Bases with a heavy core where you need a tank that survives the middle. The Champion walk strips a full corner first, so it also needs one corner where she can walk inward.

How to run it

  1. Walk the Royal Champion into a corner with Invisibility Spells: about every 10 seconds while the Spirit Fox is alive, about every 4 seconds once it dies. Recall her when the funnel is done.
  2. Use the Baby Dragon to pick off outside buildings and widen the funnel.
  3. Send the Ice Golem, Meteor Golems, Healers, Grand Warden, Troop Launcher and the recalled Champion together. The Troop Launcher’s barrels include Wall Breakers, so it keeps opening walls as the push moves.
  4. Put the King and Queen in the opposite corner for the second funnel, and break into the base with the Super Wall Breaker.
  5. When the army starts taking heavy damage, use the Warden’s ability with the Rage Spell to push through the core. Cycle Totems on defending heroes and big defenses.
  6. On the back end, cast Overgrowth to steer the army onto a safer path, and use the King’s and Champion’s abilities to snipe the last defenses.
  7. If the Revenge Tower is on the back end, Freeze it or cover the army with Invisibility while you take it down.

Common mistakes

  • Missing the switch from 10-second to 4-second Invisibility when the Fox dies. That is where most walks fail.
  • Walking into the Revenge Tower late with no spell left. By then it is at its strongest.

FAQ

What is the best TH18 attack strategy in 2026?

Dragon Duke plus Dragon Rider armies such as the Duke Charge Hydra were the most used TH18 war armies in Supercell’s July 2026 data, at roughly 20% of attacks. Thrower and Healer armies were second. For ground, Dragon Duke Charge Super Bowlers hits hardest once it reaches the core.

What is the best TH18 army for war?

Pick by base. Duke Charge Hydra for bases weak to air, Rocket Backpack Throwers when one stacked section can be deleted at the start, Duke Charge Super Bowlers for compact anti-air bases, and RC Walk Meteor Golems for heavy cores.

How many spells do you get at TH18?

Eleven of your own plus 4 in the level 14 Clan Castle, and clans at level 7 or higher can donate one extra spell. Invisibility, Totem, Freeze, Poison, Lightning, Skeleton, Earthquake and Angry take 1 slot each; Rage, Recall, Revive and Overgrowth take 2.

Were Throwers nerfed at TH18?

Yes. On September 22, 2026 their speed went from 18 back to 16, and levels 3 and 4 lost 100 and 150 hitpoints and 10 damage each.
