Angry Spell

By October 1st, 2026No Comments

Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

The Angry Spell is a 1-space Dark spell that makes your troops forget their usual targets and charge the nearest defense for a few seconds. It deals no damage; it only rewrites who your troops attack. Added in the Anime Fury update in June 2026, it is the newest spell in the game. It unlocks at Town Hall 15 with a level 8 Dark Spell Factory and has 4 levels, the last at Town Hall 18.

How the Angry Spell works

The spell covers a 6-tile circle and stays active for 5 seconds. Any of your ground or air troops inside it during that window, including troops you drop into it after casting, becomes angry. An angry troop drops what it’s doing and goes for the closest defense, ignoring its normal targeting. Each troop can only be set off once per cast.

How long a troop stays angry depends on the spell’s level, from 7 seconds at level 1 to 12 seconds at level 4. Counting the 5-second window, the effect can run for up to 17 seconds after you cast it, which is the figure Supercell gave at launch. When it wears off, troops go back to their normal behavior.

Not everything reacts:

  • Siege Machines are immune.
  • Troops that already target defenses don’t change: Balloons, Giants, Golems, Hog Riders, Root Riders, Dragon Riders, Ice Golems, the Druid‘s bear form and the Royal Champion.
  • Troops that don’t deal damage are skipped: Healers, Druids and the Ruin Witch.
  • Lava Hounds and Ice Hounds go for any defense instead of hunting Air Defenses only.

Angry troops also ignore defending troops and heroes; they won’t stop to fight back. That is different from a hero controlled by the Angry Jelly pet, which still does. The spell itself is themed on that grumpy pet from the Pet House.

Angry Spell levels and research cost

Levels only lengthen the anger; there’s no damage or radius scaling. Research uses Dark Elixir in the Laboratory. Costs and times are base values before Gold Pass discounts.

Level Anger per troop Spell active window Research cost (Dark Elixir) Research time Laboratory level Town Hall
1 7s 5s None None None 15
2 8s 5s 150,000 9d 8h 14 16
3 10s 5s 250,000 12d 15 17
4 12s 5s 400,000 15d 16 18

How to use the Angry Spell

Turn splash troops into defense hunters

The best targets are strong troops that normally waste time on whatever is closest. Valkyries are the standout: make them angry, add a Rage or Haste Spell, and they spin through defenses instead of clearing storages and huts. With the Grand Warden’s Eternal Tome and the Heroic Torch running at the same time, an angry Valkyrie pack can tear a hole in the core. Keep your heroes or a few air troops ready for defending air units, since angry Valkyries won’t turn to fight them.

Point a Fireball Warden at a defense

Cast it on a Grand Warden before a Fireball and he heads for the nearest defense, giving you control over where the Fireball goes. This copies what the Angry Jelly does, so it’s handy if you don’t have that pet leveled or want a different pet on him.

Drag Dragons where they’re needed

Dragons and similar troops can stall on outside buildings while a far-off defense picks them apart. One cast pulls them onto that defense.

Things that go wrong

  • Angry troops skip every non-defense, including storages, collectors and Builder’s Huts. Bring some cleanup troops, like Minions or Archers, or you can run out of time with the stars still on the board.
  • Don’t waste it on troops that already target defenses or on support troops; nothing happens.
  • Casting it next to a defending Clan Castle army means your troops ignore those defenders while they take hits.

If you recall an angry troop, its anger timer pauses until you deploy it again.

How to defend against the Angry Spell

Because angry troops beeline to the closest defense, the layout that hurts them most keeps your important defenses and the Town Hall in the middle with rings of other buildings outside. The troops either hit outer defenses you can afford to lose, or the anger runs out on the way in. Defending troops and heroes are also unusually strong here, since angry troops won’t fight back. A Spell Tower set to Invisibility near the core adds to the problem, because angry troops can’t pick a defense it has hidden.

Recent changes to the Angry Spell

  • June 15, 2026: added in the Anime Fury update with 4 levels, alongside level 8 of the Dark Spell Factory.
  • June 18, 2026: fixed troops with a damage bonus against certain targets, such as Wall Breakers and Goblins, applying that bonus to defenses while angry.
  • July 9, 2026: Supercell’s balance post left it unchanged because it was still very new.
  • August 30, 2026: fixed the spell missing from Clan Castle requests for lower Town Hall players, and fixed the Meteor Golem losing its anger when it splits, is thrown or merges.
