Hero Equipment

By October 1st, 2026No Comments

Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

Hero Equipment is the gear that decides what your heroes do in an attack. Each hero takes two pieces into battle, and there are 43 pieces across the six Home Village heroes as of October 2026, counting the Minion Prince’s Portal Pendant, which arrives with an event on October 8. You unlock and upgrade equipment at the Blacksmith (Town Hall 8) using three kinds of Ore.

Looking for hero abilities? They became equipment on December 12, 2023: the King’s Iron Fist, for example, was split into the Rage Vial and the Barbarian Puppet.

How hero equipment works

Every hero has two equipment slots. Before an attack you drag pieces onto your heroes in the Blacksmith (the Hero Hall has a shortcut to the same screen), and you can swap them between attacks as often as you like. Equipment only works on offense. A hero defending from a Hero Banner fights with base stats.

Pieces come in two types. Active equipment does its thing when you tap the hero’s ability button, once per battle. Passive equipment works on its own from the moment the hero lands. Nearly every piece, of either type, also adds flat stats to its hero: extra hitpoints, damage per second, attack speed or a bigger heal when the ability fires. If you equip two passive pieces, the ability button still exists and simply heals the hero.

When both pieces are active, one tap fires both. Since June 2026 the order they trigger in is fixed by the equipment itself, not by which slot you put it in.

Rarity sets how high a piece can go:

  • Common equipment maxes at level 18. Each hero starts with two Common pieces, and the rest unlock as you upgrade the Blacksmith.
  • Epic equipment maxes at level 27 and comes from events, the Trader and the Hero Journey (see below). Epics usually have bigger effects, but they also cost more Ore.

Equipment upgrades finish instantly and don’t need a Builder. Your Blacksmith level caps how far you can take each piece, so a Town Hall 10 player can’t push a Common past level 12.

Ores: Shiny, Glowy and Starry

Ore is the only resource equipment upgrades use. You start earning it once your Blacksmith is built.

Ore Used for Gem price when you’re short
Shiny Ore Every upgrade, Common and Epic 1 Gem each
Glowy Ore Every third level (3, 6, 9 and so on) 5 Gems each
Starry Ore Epic equipment only, at every third level from level 9 35 Gems each

Taking one piece all the way up costs, at standard prices:

  • Common, level 1 to 18: 27,260 Shiny and 1,920 Glowy Ore.
  • Epic, level 1 to 27: 56,060 Shiny, 3,720 Glowy and 480 Starry Ore.

Supercell said in June 2026 that it is reviewing Ore pricing, and some players may see test prices for a while, so check the in-game cost before you plan around these totals.

Where Ore comes from:

  • The daily Star Bonus pays all three types from Skeleton League up. In Legend League it’s 1,250 Shiny, 72 Glowy and 2 Starry.
  • Clan Wars add Ore to your war loot for attacks on Town Hall 8 or higher bases. One star earns the full amount. A Town Hall 16-18 target is worth up to 1,110 Shiny, 39 Glowy and 6 Starry, and Starry only drops from Town Hall 10+ targets. A lost war pays half.
  • The Trader gives 10 free Glowy Ore each week and sells Ore for Raid Medals from the Clan Capital.
  • The Hero Journey and its quests hand out Ore chests, with bigger drops for players who are far behind.
  • The Prospector, a Gold Pass helper for Town Hall 10+, converts one Ore type into another once a day (up to 2,000 Shiny, 120 Glowy or 2 Starry).
  • Events, the Shop and Gems cover the rest.

Blacksmith levels and equipment caps

Each Blacksmith upgrade raises the level cap and unlocks a new Common piece. Upgrades cost Elixir; the full table with costs and Ore storage is on the Blacksmith page.

How to get Epic equipment

Almost every new Epic debuts in a monthly medal event. You earn event medals from battles and spend 3,100 of them in the event’s Trader shop to claim the piece. Miss the event and you still have several routes:

  • The Trader. After an event ends, its Epic joins the Trader’s rotation for 1,500 Gems. It only shows up for players who don’t own it.
  • Repeat appearances. Older Epics are often offered again in later medal events, sometimes several at once.
  • The Hero Journey. Since June 2026, every hero level you gain (Town Hall 7+) moves you along a reward track in the Hero Hall that includes Epic Equipment nodes. If you already own every piece in the pool, the node pays 50 Starry Ore instead.
  • Chests. Epic Equipment can drop from reward chests, such as the ones in Treasure Hunt events.
  • The Clan War League shop has stocked a couple of the oldest Epics (Giant Gauntlet and Frozen Arrow) for League Medals.

Best equipment for each hero

The meta moves with every balance pass, so treat these as starting points rather than rules. If you’re short on Ore, pick one pair per hero and level it before you buy anything new.

  • Barbarian King: the Spiky Ball is his most flexible pick in 2026, usually next to the Giant Gauntlet, Rage Vial or Earthquake Boots. Gauntlet plus Rage Vial turns him into a compartment wrecker; Vampstache with the Snake Bracelet keeps him alive longest.
  • Archer Queen: the Action Figure is the Epic to level first, paired with the Magic Mirror or Invisibility Vial. The Giant Arrow became a specialist pick in May 2026, when Supercell lowered its general damage and doubled its damage to Air Defenses.
  • Minion Prince: Dark Orb with the Dark Crown is the standard pair, with the Meteor Staff as the other strong Epic in air attacks.
  • Grand Warden: the Eternal Tome stays in almost every attack. Pair it with the Fireball for damage, the Rage Gem for smash attacks, or the Healing Tome for sustained pushes such as Super Hog Riders or Root Riders.
  • Royal Champion: the Electro Boots are her strongest Epic, often with the Rocket Spear or Seeking Shield. Without Epics, the Haste Vial and Hog Rider Puppet work in most armies.
  • Dragon Duke: Fire Heart is close to mandatory, since Healers can’t heal a flying hero. Add the Flame Blower for burst damage or the Stun Blaster to lock down defenses. Supercell’s July 2026 balance post said Dragon armies led by the Duke and Dragon Riders were the most popular Town Hall 18 war army, in roughly 20% of attacks.

Hero-by-hero breakdowns, with pets, are on each hero’s page and on the pets page.
