Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

The Firespitter is an aimed defense unlocked at Town Hall 17. It faces one direction you choose and sprays bursts of 20 molten shots at up to 16 tiles, hitting ground and air troops. You can build two, the max level is 3 at Town Hall 18, and the top level can be Supercharged twice.

What the Firespitter does

The Firespitter is a new building, not a merge, so you build it from the shop rather than combining older defenses. It aims like the Air Sweeper: you pick a facing, and only troops inside the cone in front of it get targeted. The cone spans roughly 150 degrees, a bit less than half the area around it, and you can rotate it in 90-degree steps toward the sides of the base (not the corners). The direction of its head and front claws shows where it points.

Supercell describes its fire rate as faster than the X-Bow. Each burst is 20 shots fired 0.064 seconds apart, followed by about a one-second pause. The shots are not precise. They spread over a narrow angle, so at long range some miss the target and fly on into whatever is behind it. Each shot can hit up to two units, ground or air in any order, which means a shot aimed at a Queen can carry on into a Healer behind her.

If the target dies mid-burst, the Firespitter stops, pauses and starts a fresh burst on a new target. Against lots of weak troops that pause adds up, so its real damage drops well below the displayed number. It is at its best against a few high-hitpoint units such as heroes and Root Riders.

Firespitter levels and stats

Damage per second is the value shown in-game and assumes full bursts. Costs are in Gold.

Level Damage per second Damage per shot Hitpoints Cost (Gold) Build time Town Hall
1 410 46.03 4,500 17,000,000 8d 12h 17
2 437 49.05 5,000 18,000,000 10d 17
3 455 51.07 5,300 29,000,000 15d 18

Firespitter Supercharges

At Town Hall 18, a level 3 Firespitter can take two Supercharge levels. Each one earns 10 Sparky Stones for the Fancy Shop.

Charge Damage per second Damage per shot Hitpoints Cost (Gold) Time
1 473 53.08 5,300 14,000,000 6d 12h
2 473 53.08 5,550 12,000,000 7d 12h

Fixed stats: 16-tile range (the longest of any regular defense apart from the Eagle Artillery), 3×3 footprint, 20 shots per burst, targets ground and air, two per base.

Where to place your Firespitters

  • Point each one across the core, not out at the edge. A Firespitter facing outward wastes its cone on the first few buildings attackers clear.
  • Cover each one’s blind side. Its back half is open, so aim the two Firespitters so they cover each other’s rear, or put other strong defenses and traps behind them.
  • Line it up against hero paths. Because shots pass through to a second target, a Firespitter aimed at a Queen Walk or Queen Charge also hits the Healers and the Unicorn pet behind her.
  • Protect it against Blimp drops. A Firespitter covering the area where a Battle Blimp releases Super Archers chews through them quickly.
  • Back it with air traps. Air Bombs and the Tornado Trap soften Balloons enough for its shots to finish them.
  • Put it inside a Rage Spell Tower‘s reach. Its many small shots gain a lot from the rage boost.

Its 16-tile range outranges the Flame Flinger siege machine, the Royal Champion using Rocket Spear and the Minion Prince using Noble Iron.

How to attack a Firespitter

  • Come in from the side or behind. It cannot hit anything outside its cone, so check the facing when you scout and pick an entry it does not cover. A second Firespitter may be guarding that angle.
  • Freeze it or grow over it. A Freeze Spell stops it for a few seconds; the Overgrowth Spell takes it out of the fight for longer.
  • Use the Grand Warden‘s Eternal Tome when the army has to cross its cone. Only troops inside the tome’s aura are protected.
  • Give it something else to shoot. A Skeleton Spell placed in its cone makes it waste bursts on skeletons, as long as your main army is not standing behind them in the line of fire.
  • Tank for your Flame Flinger. If you want the siege to hit it from range, put an Ice Golem, Golem or Yeti in front first.
  • Do not line up your Healers directly behind your Queen when she walks toward it. Spread them so the piercing shots catch fewer units.
