Town Hall 18 Guide

By October 1st, 2026No Comments

Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).

Town Hall 18 is the highest Town Hall in Clash of Clans as of October 2026. It removes the Town Hall weapon and replaces it with Guardians (Smasher, Longshot and, since April 2026, Logger), and it adds the Revenge Tower, two Super Wizard Towers and the Greedy Raven pet. TH18 was released on November 17, 2025, and has gained new levels in most updates since. This guide lists the current TH18 max levels, the upgrade order, the armies Supercell says are most used, and what to finish while you wait for TH19.

What Town Hall 18 unlocks

To start TH18 your Inferno Artillery must be at level 5 and all TH17 merges must be done.

How Guardians work

Guardians are defensive units that stand on top of the Town Hall and jump down when attackers come into range. You pick which one defends, and they can’t be used to attack. While a Guardian is upgrading it skips regular multiplayer defenses, but in Ranked, war and Clan War League bases the last finished level still defends. Guardians are not heroes, so Headhunters don’t prioritize them. Since April 2026 the Poison Spell affects them at 30% strength.

  • Smasher is a melee fighter with splash damage against ground and air. If the Town Hall is destroyed while he stands, he rages, and when he falls he leaves a Rage Spell for your defenses.
  • Longshot is a ranged splash attacker against ground and air. When defeated she explodes and damages nearby troops.
  • Logger arrived on April 27, 2026. He throws slow logs that pierce through everything in a line, hit air and ground and knock troops back. The July 2026 balance update cut his rolling range by two tiles and gave him a stronger push at close range.

Without a weapon, the TH18 Town Hall no longer counts as a defensive building, so troops that target defenses walk past it.

Revenge Tower and Super Wizard Tower

The Revenge Tower starts each battle dormant and wakes up as your buildings fall. It reaches its first stage at 5 destroyed buildings, its second at 25 and its third at 50, firing faster and bouncing shots between targets at the later stages. These thresholds were raised on January 28, 2026 (from 5, 20 and 40). A Super Wizard Tower’s attack chains to up to 15 nearby enemies.

Supercharges

Once a building is at its highest level, you can add Supercharges with a builder: two charges for defenses (damage first, then hitpoints) and three for resource collectors. They are wiped when that building gets a new level, so do them last. Eighteen buildings currently take Supercharges, including the X-Bow, Inferno Tower, Scattershot, every merged defense, the Revenge Tower and the three resource collectors. Each completed charge gives 10 Sparky Stones to spend in the Fancy Shop.

Upgrade priority at Town Hall 18

  1. Laboratory to level 16. TH18 research covers nearly every unit, and new TH18 levels keep arriving.
  2. Pick a Guardian and level it. One Guardian at level 5 does more for your base than three at level 2, because only one defends at a time.
  3. Merge both pairs of Wizard Towers into Super Wizard Towers. Both TH17 and TH18 required every available merge before the upgrade could start, so expect the same for TH19.
  4. Hero Hall to level 12, then heroes. The King and Queen each gain 10 levels.
  5. Build the Revenge Tower. It uses Dark Elixir, like the Monolith, so plan those upgrades around your hero queue.
  6. Army Camps and Clan Castle for the extra housing space and the fourth Clan Castle spell.
  7. Pet House to level 12 for the Greedy Raven.
  8. Defenses next, starting with whatever you defend against most in Ranked. Walls and Supercharges come last.

Armies that work at Town Hall 18 in 2026

Supercell’s July 2026 balance post shared TH18 war data:

  • Dragon armies led by the Dragon Duke and Dragon Riders were the most used TH18 vs TH18 war army, in roughly 20% of attacks.
  • Throwers backed by Healers were second. Together, the two styles made up about 40% of TH18 war attacks.
  • Electro Dragons were underperforming, so Supercell gave them a small health and damage boost at their top two levels.
  • The Meteor Golem, which dominated right after TH18 launched and was then cut back hard, got the biggest buff of that round.

The same post trimmed the Dragon Duke’s trap damage reduction again and gave the Dragon Rider a small cut at its top level, so the air lead may have narrowed since. Supercell’s March 2026 State of Gameplay post also pointed out that the Grand Warden’s Life Gem came back into wide use once the strongest strategies were nerfed. Totem Spell, Sneezy, the Ruin Witch, the Angry Spell and the Sky Wagon were all on Supercell’s watch list in July.

Event and temporary troops are banned from Ranked, Clan Wars and Clan War League since the TH18 update. The Greedy Raven fits farming more than war: it targets resource buildings near its hero and deals five times the damage to them.

Base building at Town Hall 18

We do not publish base layouts. These principles fit the TH18 meta described above.

  • Choose your Guardian for the attacks you face. Smasher punishes armies that reach the Town Hall, Longshot covers more ground from range, and Logger knocks back troops that line up in front of him.
  • The Town Hall gives a star when destroyed but no longer shoots, so many players use it as a high-hitpoint block that protects an important compartment.
  • Place the Revenge Tower deep in the base, where attackers arrive after many buildings have already fallen.
  • Air is still common at TH18, so cover the routes to your Air Defenses with Seeking Air Mines and Air Bombs, and keep Super Wizard Towers where groups of Dragon Riders and support units will bunch.
  • The Crafting Station’s Phase 4 defenses (Hot Candle, Hero Hunter and Cake-A-Pult) run until December 31, 2026. Fit them into your layout, but don’t build the whole base around a defense that will rotate out.

Before Town Hall 19

As of October 1, 2026, Supercell has not announced Town Hall 19 and has given no date or sneak peek. Our expectation is that it arrives in late 2026, because the last four Town Halls came out in October 2022, December 2023, November 2024 and November 2025. That is our reading of the pattern, not a Supercell statement.

  • Both Super Wizard Tower merges are done. The last two Town Hall upgrades required all merges first.
  • Heroes are as close to max as you can get. Hero levels are usually the slowest thing to finish at a new Town Hall.
  • Supercharges are low priority. They are wiped whenever a building gets a new level, and a new Town Hall usually brings new levels.

Town Hall 18 FAQ

What is the best TH18 base?

No layout beats every army. A good TH18 base picks a Guardian that suits it, keeps the Revenge Tower deep, and covers air routes, since Dragon Duke and Dragon Rider armies were the most used in TH18 wars in mid-2026.

What is the TH18 upgrade order?

Laboratory, then one Guardian to level 5, then the Super Wizard Tower merges and the Hero Hall. Heroes, Revenge Tower, Army Camps and Clan Castle follow, with Walls and Supercharges last.

What are the TH18 max levels?

Heroes: Barbarian King and Archer Queen 110, Minion Prince 95, Grand Warden 85, Royal Champion 55, Dragon Duke 25. Guardians 5, Walls 19, Laboratory 16.

Is TH18 the max Town Hall, and when is TH19 coming?

Yes, TH18 is the max as of October 2026. Supercell has not announced Town Hall 19; based on past release dates we expect it in late 2026, but treat that as an estimate.
