Updated for Town Hall 18 (October 2026).
The Log Launcher is the fifth Siege Machine in Clash of Clans. It unlocks with the level 5 Workshop at Town Hall 13 and rolls a heavy log forward every 3 seconds, flattening Walls and buildings in a straight line on its way to the Town Hall. Level 6, added in April 2026 for Town Hall 18, is the current max.
How the Log Launcher works
Once deployed, the Launcher crawls toward the enemy Town Hall at a movement speed of 5, slower than any troop that walks. It doesn’t stop to fight. Every 3 seconds it fires a log straight ahead. Each log rolls up to 20 tiles or until it has hit four buildings, then breaks apart. Logs deal four times their normal damage to Walls, so a single log can open several Wall segments in a row.
At the same moment it fires, the Launcher also deals a heavy point-blank hit to anything within about a tile of its front. That second hit keeps it from getting stuck behind a building for long. One exception: if the building in front is held by an Overgrowth Spell, the Launcher can sit there stalled.
The machine loses about 156 hitpoints every second from the moment it lands, at every level. That decay is what limits its lifetime to roughly 26 to 37 seconds, depending on level, even if no defense ever touches it. The Grand Warden’s Eternal Tome stops incoming damage but does not stop this decay. When it breaks, runs out of health, or you tap to release it, your Clan Castle troops pop out where it stood.
Unlock, donations and levels
You build the Log Launcher once your Workshop reaches level 5, which needs Town Hall 13. The Workshop upgrade costs 9,000,000 Elixir and takes 5 days. Building the machine itself is free and instant, and research happens in the Laboratory with Elixir.
To receive one from a clan mate you need a level 7 Clan Castle (Town Hall 11). Since September 2024 a donated Launcher is capped by your Clan Castle: level 2 at CC7, 3 at CC8, 4 at CC9, 5 at CC10, and the full level 6 from CC11 up.
| Level | Damage per log | Damage per log vs Walls | Point-blank damage | Hitpoints | Lifetime | Research cost (Elixir) | Research time | Lab level | Town Hall |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 420 | 1,680 | 2,900 | 4,000 | 25.6 s | None | None | None | 13 |
| 2 | 480 | 1,920 | 3,000 | 4,400 | 28.2 s | 3,200,000 | 3d | 10 | 13 |
| 3 | 540 | 2,160 | 3,100 | 4,800 | 30.8 s | 4,500,000 | 4d | 10 | 13 |
| 4 | 600 | 2,400 | 3,200 | 5,200 | 33.3 s | 7,500,000 | 7d | 11 | 13 |
| 5 | 660 | 2,640 | 3,400 | 5,500 | 35.3 s | 18,000,000 | 12d | 14 | 16 |
| 6 | 690 | 2,760 | 3,600 | 5,800 | 37.2 s | 27,000,000 | 15d | 16 | 18 |
Levels 2 to 4 only need a level 10 or 11 Laboratory, but the Launcher doesn’t show up in the Laboratory until the Workshop is level 5, so a fresh Town Hall 13 can research the first three upgrades right away. Damage per second runs from 140 at level 1 to 230 at level 6. Costs and times are standard values before any Gold Pass discount.
How to use the Log Launcher
Think of it as a path-maker for ground armies. Drop it facing a long run of linked Walls and each log slices through compartments that would otherwise need Wall Breakers or a Jump Spell. A Wall Wrecker breaks Walls only where it drives; the Launcher breaks them up to 20 tiles ahead and damages buildings along the way.
- Pair it with a Queen Charge (Archer Queen plus Healers) or with your main ground push so the troops follow the lane the logs open.
- Its health is low for a siege, and it decays anyway. Put a tank such as an Ice Golem in front so defenses shoot something else while it fires.
- Watch the angle. If the logs knock out a row of weak buildings in the middle while the ones on either side survive, your troops can split and wander. Clear or funnel the sides before the logs open the middle.
- Logs keep going after the Launcher has lost most of its health, so even a short-lived Launcher can soften the Town Hall. Pairing it with Earthquake Spells on the Town Hall lets the logs finish the Town Hall from range.
- Load the Clan Castle with troops that can finish the core once the Launcher breaks, such as Yetis or Valkyries.
For full army lists that use it, see the Town Hall 13 attack strategies and the attack strategies hub.
Defending against the Log Launcher
Every log stops after its fourth building. Put a cluster of sturdy buildings near the outside, in the lines an attacker would roll logs down, and the logs die early before they reach your inner Walls. Compartments with small Wall gaps in the corners also hold up better than long straight Wall runs that one log can cut.
Its hitpoints are modest and already ticking down, so high single-target damage finishes it quickly. A Monolith or a single-target Inferno Tower covering the likely drop lanes cuts its lifetime short, and fewer logs means fewer broken compartments.
Log Launcher changes
- December 2020: added with the level 5 Workshop and four levels.
- February 27, 2024: level 5 added.
- September 9, 2024: Town Hall 10 players can no longer receive it; donated levels lowered at Town Halls 11 and 12.
- March 2025, Clash Anytime update: building Siege Machines takes no time.
- April 27, 2026, Sound of Clash update: level 6 added. All Siege Machines also became immune to the Town Hall 14-16 poison, Life Gem effects and the Apprentice Warden‘s aura, and started taking damage from Firemite fires.
- May 26, 2026: the Sky Wagon lost a barrel, a Minion per barrel and one level on its troops after Supercell said it was showing up in too many attacks. The Log Launcher itself was not changed.
Log Launcher FAQ
What Town Hall do you get the Log Launcher?
Town Hall 13, with the level 5 Workshop. You can use a donated one from Town Hall 11 with a level 7 Clan Castle.
What does the Log Launcher target?
It drives toward the Town Hall and fires logs at whatever is in front of it. The logs hit Walls and up to four buildings each.
What is the Log Launcher’s max level?
Level 6, which needs a level 16 Laboratory at Town Hall 18. Every other Town Hall cap is on the max levels page.
Is the Log Launcher better than the Wall Wrecker?
For opening many compartments in one line, yes. The Wall Wrecker is tougher and lasts until it’s destroyed, so it suits attacks that need a slow, sturdy path to the core. Compare all nine on the Siege Machines page.
